The back of the graffiti mailbox is a garden

I decided the back of the mailbox should be a garden. it took me a bit to figure out how.

The brown beads made the path through the garden....to the bench at the end. This is rather intense....i made sure you could not see much of the white mailbox underneath. it is all tight.

There is a birdhouse

In this section i put bright lime green buttons down and covered them with the flower beads

There is a red butterfly in the white flowers.

The 'bush' on the left was...i think...some plastic plant from an aquarium. i snipped the ends of the leaves so the white beads would slide on there. i love that piece.  do you see the bunny in the blue bush...and the frog?

bush bunny frog.jpg

At the end of the trail is a bench to sit on and admire the garden. there is a cat next to the bench to amuse you....and a turtle who is amused by the cat. the strange beads behind the bench represent a row of trees to shade the bench because that sun is beating down. haha

And this is one side of the pink portion of the rainbow. i just need to flip it over and do the other side of the pink.

I am close to being finished with this.

There's a snail on my mailbox

More progress on the graffiti art mailbox.

The front of the box looks like this. i didn't want to make it too heavy....just give it a little character. the bottom jaw of the skull moves...haha..  it used to be a pin to wear on a dress....ugh!!

When you open the door....you get a message.

This is the snail on one side

Close up of the top right

Bottom right

Snail head.

Since these pics, i have finished his antennae....and started on the rainbow that is at the top of the mailbox. this is so much fun.

I Spy Match Up

OK...it was NOT...haha     second quilt finish for the day.

The idea here is to find the blocks that match...there are 2 of each.  Except for 2 squares that don't match anything. might keep a kid or 2 busy for a bit.

front.jpg

Quick quilting job....wavy Xs across each square.

1.jpg

I used all kinds of fabrics....not just the usual I Spy fabrics

2.jpg

48x60"..Pieced April 6, 2013....it's been waiting a while for quilting

3.jpg

Red border got swirlies .... and somewhere along the way i got turned around so swirlies go different directions.  and i created a special design for the white border.....just for this quilt....it's called ...  Connect the Dots. hahahaha

border.jpg

Back is another 'put your sunglasses on' piece of fabric from the stash. i believe this is all gone now...thank goodness.

back.jpg

Top thread was Glide red...bobbin was So Fine black.

thread.jpg

I'm done quilting now for the day.

Kids' Nativity

And today's quilt finish is....Kids' Nativity.   looks like kids are putting on a play. really cute.

Done by embroidery machine....September 9, 2014.   seems like a lot of embroidery was going on in that month.

front.jpg

Just 31 x 41"

1.jpg

Quick large meander quilting

2.jpg

Used a wool batting piece that i had left over....it's kind of poofy.

3.jpg

4.jpg

5.jpg

6.jpg

Back is piece of muslin

back.jpg

Usual Glide thread for the top. for the bobbin i used a bobbin that was left over from another quilt...light gray thread.

thread.jpg

Maybe the next quilt should be a bit larger....and perhaps a custom....to see if i really remember how to quilt something. haha

Or...not.

Update on graffiti art mailbox

I am so excited about my mailbox that i have not been piecing anything at all in the evenings. quilts?...what quilts!  haha  my table is completely taken over by my mailbox. i am really loving this.

More has been added to the top of the flower

top of flower.jpg

This is my conveyor belt....it is bringing packages into my mailbox. hahaha    it will go over and around to the other side.

conveyor belt.jpg

But, my favorite part so far is the yellow at the top.....the sun.....with the huge spider. haha  hope i don't give the mail person a heart attack.

spider.jpg

And another view.

spider 2.jpg

DH comes into the kitchen and says...."i knew i would find you in here...gluing away.  i find you here first thing in the morning when i wake up and you are in here when i go to sleep at night."

What can i say.....i am having fun.

Scottie Dogs

I can blame....um, thank....Gayle McKay for this little quilt. she showed this type of sashing on a customer's quilt last September and i loved it. and you know me....i see it....i love it....i have to make it. haha

Pieced September 18, 2014...quilted February 7, 2015

The sashing is such a cool idea that you have to say to yourself...why didn't i think of that?

front.jpg

I did SID around the dog blocks and on the sides of the sashings

corner.jpg

And CC in the dog blocks. swirls in the red border and uneven lines in the black border.

close.jpg

Put on your sunglasses for the back. and i had just enough of it left for the binding. 1" of extra binding left over. phew!!

back.jpg

Usual threads....Glide bright red for the top...pic is a bit washed out; So Fine yellowish gold for the bobbin

thread.jpg

It is 40" square...another small cuddle quilt for some little child.

Salty or Sweet

Here is today's quilt finish. it's only 43x44"...and not much quilting, so a quick one.

Pieced September 9, 2014.  Applique done with embroidery machine. plastic 'jars' applied with embroidery machine, also.

front.jpg

This reminds me of my Aunt Sophie's house. she had a shelve with lots of jars of candies and when you would visit she would let you have all that you wanted.

corn.jpg

But, you didn't eat the black jelly beans...those were for Uncle Bud.

gingerbread.jpg

But, they weren't my favorite anyway....there were way too many other choices that were wonderful.

gumdrops.jpg

gummies.jpg

licorice.jpg

pretzels.jpg

The border was just a quick job with lines going every which way.

border.jpg

Used a piece of muslin for the back. the top was 43x45" and i didn't want to piece anything for the back....lazy today.

back.jpg

Top thread was a Glide...for the bobbin i used 4 bobbins of thread that were left over from the last 2 quilts. they were close enough in color that i couldn't tell the difference.

thread.jpg

And this will be hanging on a wall, so no one will see the back anyway. i think i am keeping this one.

I like almost all of those goodies in the jars. which is your favorite?
