Black Selvages with red

This is another one that my sister is sending to my niece. It is 60x75.  With selvages on a base fabric, plus heavy batting, this is a heavy quilt. selvage quilts are always heavier due to multiple seams and base fabrics.

Blocks are 7". All blocks have a red strip in the middle. In the border blocks i used mainly the white parts of the selvages.

I quilted an X in each block and then a line from side to side and top to bottom. And went around all blocks, too. It was continuous on each row, with 5 passes.

I broke a needle on the second row in a thick intersection of blocks. I switched to a leather needle and didn't have any more breakage.

But I did have a few intersections that I couldn't sew through and had to make a little circle around it.

Look for zombies in the border. haha

The back is a black, gray and red plaid flannel.  I used the same fabric as the back for the binding.

Top thread was Glide Black; bobbin was So Fine Taupe...which looks grey on the backing.

Mosaics

A great stash buster quilt. It is 53x74. This quilt is going to my niece ...she likes black.... and she is living in the cold northeast, so it is going to her. 

It went together fairly quickly

Glide Black for the top; So Fine brown for the bobbin.

John Deer Baby Quilt

I need a baby in a John Deere family to give this quilt to. haha

I had a piece of fabric with these cute john deere machines on it and decided to cut them up and put some scrappy yellows and greens around them. This is what i came up with

Critters Alphabet

I got this funky alphabet pattern in my inheritance from my friend, Sharon.

I used her patterns to cut out the letters and the animals....and then made it my own. haha

The part that takes the longest is cutting out all those parts. They are all fused on. I will sew them down when I quilt it.

I rather liked doing this. I'll have to add some contrast in the quilting for a few blocks. It was fun deciding how to set the animal with their letter.

Landfill

This one is called landfill. it has lots of little bits and pieces that would normally go in the trash (landfill). It is 42x51.  I have several smaller tops in the cabinet that i am going to quilt up and donate to the local Veterans Home. I think they will be good wheelchair and bed sizes. I'll see how many I can get worked up in the next couple weeks.

This has only lived in the to-be-quilted cabinet since last January. I used bits and pieces of black leftover bindings for this one. I loaded it yesterday, so it quilted up quickly today. 

There are rows of pieced blocks, so I just put an X in each block and SID around all the white borders.

One row was taller than the rest

I used some Asian print for the sides to make it a bit wider. SID around the prints and some half Xs in the black edges.

The back is a cozy flannel fishing print.

Top thread was Glide Key Lime and bobbin was So Fine Christmas Green.

My sister's stars

Another top from my sister.  she said she was cleaning out a closet or something and found this one...forgot she had it. She chose red thread for the top and black for the bobbin. 

I haven't known her to make these blocks, so it must be from some time ago. usually now she just does squares or rectangles.

It is 56" square.

The back is a black and white print.

You can't see much of the quilting. I used an oldy but a goody panto from Michelle Wyman called Star Swirl.

Glide Ruby and So Fine Black thread.

I'm going back next week, so it will go home then. The good thing about quilting for my sis is I don't have to do the binding. hahahaha

Broken Diamonds

I have lost my note, and don't remember where I saw this pattern. I THINK in a magazine....might have come from someone here on MQR.  Don't remember the pattern or quilt name...so made one up. the mind is a terrible thing to lose. haha  It hasn't been too long in the making...several months.

It is about 72x87. it is all ruler work and i was sick of it before i got half finished. i have no patience any more these days. so, it lived on the frame for way too long. and there are a few thread bobbles on the back that i didn't catch until it was finished....so, they stay, too. I'll find it a home. .... somewhere.

The border is a dark brown. I am trying to catch up on my growing piles of scraps. My favorite quilts to piece these days are those that take hundreds of scraps. hahaha  And there are still so many scraps left that I could start a bonfire and burn down a small village.

Some of these fabrics have been around for years....and been in many quilts.....how are there still pieces left?????

When I started, the ruler work seemed like the thing to do....after a couple of rows I was wishing i had done a panto.
