More cut out kits

More things I cut out in July....

Ducks...

I had a dozen duck blocks.....given to me by someone.....

So, I trimmed them down and cut out 2" strips of colors that matched....browns, greens, reds, grays, blues.  i will put a couple rounds of strips around each block and then see what it needs from there.

Nine Patches Squared....

I finished cutting this out a couple days ago. I saw a picture in a magazine...It was called Emma Grace by Kathy Brown of The Teachers Pet.  It was in Quiltmaker Sept/Oct 2011 magazine.

I made one block to figure out sizes.

Then cut out pinks and browns

Someday I will need a baby quilt and it will be waiting for me to piece.

The other thing I cut out this month was Band Together... It was in this magazine

Here is the pattern.

I didn't have enough dark navy blue for the solid, so I used the fabric in the middle of these strips. And made the bands from blues, browns, tans and peach to match. they are just waiting to be pieced together...all bands are finished.

All this cutting gets done while the embroidery machine is working. it is easier to just sit there and babysit the machine since I have to change threads every few minutes....so, while it is working, i am cutting out stuff.

Wonder who will finish all these projects in boxes when I die?  hahahaha

Cutting out kits

I had a brainstorm today....kind of scary.  I have been cutting out quilts and putting the pieces in boxes for months.....and not keeping track of them. so, i decided i should put them on the blog and have a record for myself of when i cut something out. knowing me, it could be years before they ever get pieced, much less quilted.

These are the ones I have cut so far this month.

Townhouses...

This is the pattern I saw in a magazine.

I cut out all the pieces and marked them as to what is what.

I made one block so i can test if it worked, and to remember how it goes.

I finished cutting this out yesterday.

Rodeo

This was my embroidery challenge project for July from Judy, who picked #11.  It probably won't get pieced this month, but i did get all the blocks finished. i will give it to my son when it is finished. This is the embroidery CD that I used.

Here are the blocks.

A bit of a close up

I have a bit of this fabric left...it says Wrangler on it. I want to incorporate it into this quilt somehow. Maybe on the corners of the blocks. i think it would be too much light for sashing.  i'll think of something.

It will be wall hanging size. I had not used these designs yet and have had them for years. I am trying to use all my designs at least once. I still have many i have not used.

Birds of a Feather

This is the cutest little baby quilt. I saw it in a magazine and had to make it.

Here is my top.  They had cut individual blocks but I saw no sense in that....just to sew them together again, so i just cut rows. That way I could play with spacing and placement a bit.

I used flannel for the background

And I turned a couple birds the other direction in the row.

I had plenty of bright colored fabrics in the stash to use.

This little guy is trying out his wings. haha  why walk when you can fly.

It was lots of fun cutting and matching wings to birds.

Not as much fun was cutting out all those little feet and beaks.

Not sure what I will do for eyes. buttons would not be safe for babies. i'll worry about that later. it still needs to be quilted.

Flowers and Four Patches

I saw a top similar to this somewhere....and decided i could make one pretty easily. the original has hearts....but i didn't have a heart die, so i used my flower die. works for me.

I had plenty of black and white prints. I used two different yellow prints for the flowers since I didn't have enough of either of them to make them all. the flowers are fused on. The gold and white border came from the stash.

The top is 70x88....good couch size.

Now it has to marinade for a while before quilting....although I do know how i want to quilt it. i think i will quilt it with yellow thread, too.

Empty Thread Spools

I filled up my bowl that I toss empty thread spools in....so it was time to count them. so far, this year, I have emptied 50 spools....

.. i am on track to meet or surpass last years total of 100.

in 2016 I only used 79. so, i guess i am sewing more. gotta sew faster and see if i can pass that 100 mark. hahaha

Wool Applique Flower Baskets

I worked on these blocks off and on for the past year when i visited my sister. the pattern only had 6 baskets, so i made 2 of each, changing the colors of the flowers in the second set. it is 31x43".

The striped background is a flannel. the binding is something i had in the stash.

All hand stitched with wool.

I was just meandering large feathers around, but sometimes had to go in with a curl to fill in a space.

I was using up bits of batting that was kind of fat, so this is a pretty puffy wall hanging.
