My nephew's baby quilt

I finally finished the baby quilt for my nephew. They are in Brooklyn, New York. New parents are in their 40's, so hope things all go well. So far, so good. She is due in November.

I forgot to measure. It's about 55x65 ... somewhere in there.

The letters are crazy quilt style, done on the embroidery machine.

They are cat people, so 2 of the corners have cats.

I'm a dog person, so he had to get in there, too.

And, Pooh for the baby.  Hope that scary looking face above Pooh doesn't scare the baby. haha

I quilted around the letter and alternated horizontal and vertical lines in the blocks. Irregular spacing.  Line spacing in the border also.

Love the colorful dots for the sash and border.

The back is a bit brighter yellow that this shows.   And some wild stripe for the binding.

The baby should have that alphabet all learned by the time he goes to school.

..Made 80 rail fence blocks .. they are on eBay

5.jpg.51ffddae208e22f39ec200cc707d24a0.jpg

..Made 42 Red crazy quilt blocks .. they are on eBay.  The centers are a texture...satin, velvet, corduroy, felt, etc. They are done on the embroidery machine.

4.jpg.dd8cf6bd7c976e8a18dee24949d71ffb.jpg

7.jpg.286b2822fd7b3c3a1dc71c01bcb533dc.jpg

..Made 12 Circus Horses blocks. they are on eBay.  It is the center of a Bonnie Hunter block. These are already 18"..if I had finished the block it would have been 24" ..  too large. All the horses are different.  I only had a pic, not the pattern. Her pieces were probably much smaller. My horse square was 6.5". Bonnie's was probably 2" or smaller.

6.jpg.e5d0234907825b7a5fc89f8eac251527.jpg

..And I started one of these circles on squares. My first intention was to hand sew the circles down, with batting inside. I quickly gave up that idea and fused the circle down and stitched around with applique stitch. I'll make 80 or more. The squares are blacks, whites and greys. The circles are all wild.

That's all I got.

I decided September would be different. I will have no 'formal' challenges. I'll just work on whatever I like. I have plenty to choose. from. haha

But they are fun....mostly.

I do like a few more designs, but may have to finish these up and call it a day.

July Challenge results

July was a crazy month. Hubby wound up in the hospital for 2 days and a week of me playing nurse. Not as much studio time. Plus, it's hot.

But, I did get some stuff done. The challenges got worked on...

1.  Make scrappy colored blocks.... done .... and sold on eBay

2.  Embroidery ABCs for nephew's baby ....  blocks done but not sewn together yet. The crazy quilt block with the cat is a corner.

3.  Piece the green, blue, yellow top ..  done ... sold on eBay

I started some novelty abc blocks. I still need something for the J and O.

I entered the Quilted Twins First Challenge quilt. I have mailed it in and waiting to see if I won anything. Here is a teaser since I can't show the quilt yet.

Am quilting on my cousin Bob's quilt. It's slow going.

Made some Winnie the Pooh game pieces for my cousin's grandkids.

Finished the July Sweet Pea house.

Worked on Scott's Stars and Bars quilt a long....got the next 3 steps done.

Working on a Potato Chip Block challenge on MQR. Most people are probably doing 1 quilt. I, of course, being an over achiever, am making 6. haha   I like that block. Someone gave a link to 33 different designs with this block. I am making several.

1.  Basic light and dark.  pieces all cut and some assembly

2.  Spiral .. dogs and bones. all pieces cut and some assembly

3.  Red and white hearts...all pieces cut.  i block assembled.

4.  Linked Boxes in blue and white.  all pieces cut

5.  Gridlock .. tiny bits...the pieces left at the end of the potato chip bag. Working on making pieces.

6.  Basic ...  applique hearts in various colors.  Some pieces cut and assembled.

And, I am assembling Harry Potter lego kits. So far, I have done 4 Privet Drive and Hagrid's Hut. Currently working on Gryffindor House Banner.  And 4 more kits to do. I love Lego and Harry Potter.

And, finally, am designing a Lego quilt. That is going to take some time. I got an embroidery digitizer to make the Lego logo for me in 1", so I will be embroidering a few hundred of those. haha

If I'm still alive next month, I'll report in again.
