The French General

I just finished a cute little quilt for a customer. the fabric line is called French General. great colored stripes and cute alphabet blocks.

I did the small 2" clamshells in the stripes using my Quiltazoid boards

A crosshatch in the alphabet blocks and SID around the side pieces.

I love all the different styles of the letters.

This one takes me right back to grade school.

The back was a pretty print.

A fun and easy quilt. customer loved it...what more could you ask.

Now if my internet will stay connected and work reasonably quickly, i'll show you more finishes..

Learn your alphabet

The alphabet quilt got all quilted up yesterday and this morning i got the binding on it. it, too, is a bright one. i seem to like bright...don't i?  hahahaha  i used up a lot of fabrics here....and used a bunch of pieces of batting, too. there are about 7 strips of batting in here....waste not...etc.

I put the numbers in the corners....

I think some little kid is gonna smile with this one. think how smart he/she will become.....knowing the alphabet...the numbers....and all those objects.

ABC....XYZ...123

All those alphabet letters i was appliquing are now arranged into a top. .... just needs quilting...and i plan on that happening today.

When i machine embroider/applique a 5x7" block....it requires a 14x18" piece of background fabric to fit into the frame. normally when i cut the block down....i throw those extra pieces into the scrap boxes. this time i decided to use them for sashings and borders. i cut all the pieces into 1 1/2" strips.

I used the same color for sashing on the right side and bottom of each block. all the pieces that were left.....i sewed them all into a long piece....974" of them. and using the 1600 quilt method....sewed them together....and together again....and together once more. that gave me about 250"...enough for the border ... or 8 borders. LOL

It's nothing if not bright. this will be a great learning tool for some child...learn your alphabet...some numbers....your colors....and play I Spy....all in one quilt. what more could you ask for.  i put a cat driving the car.

And a fish driving the train. too bad i didn't have a turtle to carry on the T theme. think anyone will notice? LOL

Now i have to go quilt it....will show you the results

Alphabet choices for the Princess Quilts

Here are alphabet choices that i think will work for the Princess Quilts. the pictures are strange, kind of, because i was taking a pic of the screen on my embroidery machine.

1.  Funky alphabet....comes 2 inches or 3.5 inches tall.....capital letters only. will have to squish them a bit for the longer name. but i like them because of the different things in the letters. can do them in the shades of pinks or purples or whatever.

2.  Fun applique alphabet...comes 2.5 inches or 4 inches tall.  capital letters only.  applique can match, colorwise, or be scrappy. probably won't fit larger name.

3.  Heartstrings alphabet. comes 2 inches tall. have capital and small letters. small letters do not have the hearts and stars.   i like these, too.

4.  Kids applique alphabet...comes 3 inches tall. capital and small letters. can be appliqued any fabrics. won't work well for longer name.

5.  Patchwork applique alphabet.  comes 4" tall....capital letters only. won't work for larger name. can be various scrappy pieces.

6.  And, CurlyQ alphabet....comes about 3 1/4 inches tall. capital letters only.

Or, i could just use a plain alphabet that is in the machine.

Which, if any.......do you like and want me to use.
