Do you know your nursery rhymes?

OK...i need help. i appliqued 24 pictures on my embroidery machine of nursery rhymes for a baby quilt....or 2.  most all of them made sense.

For instance... here is Hey Diddle Diddle

Mistress Mary Quite Contrary....love her dress..looks like she belongs in the 60s. LOL actually the purple dress and the green shoes and leaves are from the same piece of fabric. my stash is wild!

What the hell is the nursery rhyme about a crying pig? all i can think of is The 3 Pigs  and that is not a rhyme but a story. do you know?

And what is with the duck with the hat and bow? my sis says there is something about a counting rhyme with her ducklings....anyone know it? what rhyme does she belong to.

I don't know of any new nursery rhymes. why did we have these back in the old days anyway? and aren't they weird? i wonder what kids think of them.

If you know the names of these 2 rhymes please clue me in or i will be wondering about them from now till ...

Froggy

I just finished quilting the cutest baby quilt. my friend Judy makes these frog quilts....they just make you laugh when you see them.

I quilted a dragonfly on his nose but you have to look to spot it. freeform feathers all around him.

A lot of SID and some ruler work in the squares.

Wiggly piano keys in the green border. the threads matched so well it is hard to see any quilting. and the back is a giant 4 patch. she will use the orange polka dot for binding.

This quilt will make baby (and parents) smile.

OK...2 more hours and 1 more baby quilt.  this top was made from some charm squares and pink and floral flannel. it was more a case of  'use up this stuff'. LOL  it's about 38x56. baby cuddle size.

I used the same free form design that i used on the last one. this is a practice for the next quilt coming up.

The backing is a flannel backed satin that i had left over from making a jacket about a jillion years ago. i used the satin side for the outside. it quilted up just beautifully.

I used a Glide pink thread for the top and a Bottom Line pale yellow for the back.

OK...i'm done for the day now here at the studio. i'm hungry and headed for the house and some of those chicken enchiladas from last night's dinner.

Then i have to make numerous loafs of cushaw squash bread and persimmon cookies for a party tomorrow evening. and pack for my trip to the Duck this weekend.

Stashbusting Report #2

I used up 3 more yards of my stash. yeah!!!  while cleaning out the studio the other day i came across these little applique embroidered animals that i had done ages ago. there were 10 of them. don't know why i stopped at 10. 12 would have been better for a baby quilt...well wasn't going to embroider 2 more. so i used some black and white kid faces fabric and cut 2 more blocks.

then found some wild floral print with bold kid like colors along with fabrics to match in purple, green, orange, pink and yellow. i put a little 1" border around each animal and sewed them together. since i used the black and white kid faces print in 2 blocks, i put a small 1/2" border with some black and white print and then the wild floral for the last border. it came out to 38"x50" and i think that is the perfect size.

i used most of the rest of the fabrics to piece a backing for it.

and this little lovely will be the binding.

so, 3 more yards gone easy as pie. i believe this will be saved for a friend in Texas who is having a baby in May.

of course, now it goes in the 'to be quilted' pile. but, i am working on that, too. LOL

4 yards down; 96 to go.  now...what's next....hhhmmmm.  did you bust any of your stash today?
