Neutral crazy quilt update

When i was at class last week, Mary asked me how my neutral crazy quilt was coming along. oops!!  i had to admit it was sitting in a box. so, when i got home i guiltily took it out of the box..... and realized i had not worked on it since christmas. sigh!!   too many projects.

So i made it a priority for the last few days and got another round on it...just for you, Mary.

It is now 48" square. in the whole scheme of things....that's about 1/4 of the total quilt finished. not bad if i think of it that way.

But, i need 28 more blocks to add another row around it. that sounds like a lot. since i only needed 20 blocks to add this round.

I am loving all the lacy bits that i am finding online. all these things are being added by machine. the only hand sewing was the center heart and the blocks directly around it.

I have discovered a new (to me) crazy quilt magazine and have been visiting all of the vendors advertised. (and buying)

The ecru colored lace in the left pic above this sentence has cool lace. in person it looks like paper...but is lace. i like it a lot

And i have found a lot of lace designs like this one, too.

This is a little crocheted flower. it makes me wonder how those folks can take the time to crochet these and then sell them for about a dollar each. but i'm glad they do. that rust colored fabric in the pic is painted batting by the way.

Another crocheted flower. i am making etsy shop owners happy with my purchases. LOL

Hopefully this project won't lay in the box another 2 months before i get to it again. it would be nice to get it finished this year also. but i was wondering if i can do something with the design rather than just the 8" square blocks. wheels are turning in the brain.

Stay tuned

Neutral 1600 inch quilt

Sometimes i forget to show you what i've been doing. just running 100 mph. i quilted up a few smallish quilts that i had in the cabinet for me.

I put this together along the lines of the 1600 inch quilt pattern. don't know how many inches i had....just cut a bunch of neutral fabrics at 2.5 inches and put them together.

And i had that dark brown stripe that was bought for something else but didn't work there so i used it for the border here. it has gold threads in it.

The quilting is just a mish-mash of stuff. some swirls....some feathers...some wiggly and straight lines in the border. it was a 'get er done' moment. LOL

I do enjoy the way these quilts come together. i wish i had more stash that i could use this way.

This one still needs the binding on it....in fact, there are 3 quilts sitting on the table waiting for binding. sigh!!

Today is going to be a busy day....going to town for errands....calling for lumber pricing...packing up once again to leave in the morning. but i believe after this weedends trip i will be home for the month of january at least. i need to get back to my routine.

Stay warm and stay safe.

Neutral Crazy Quilt

Last night in class we got a heart pattern to make a crazy quilt block for a pillow. i am not a pillow kind of girl but i am working on a neutral crazy quilt. so i decided to make this heart the center of my quilt. our homework was to get the pieces put together and put on the lace or embellishments that were to be stitched into the seams. here is what i have so far.

This is on a 12" piece of muslin. i stitched the pieces together and hand stitched it to the muslin. i put 2 pieces of lace into seams. then i added rickrack on one seam and a ribbon on another seam. i also pinned that lacy design onto 1 piece. that is probably as far as i will go until next class (in 2 weeks), where we will be learning some new silk ribbon embroidery stitches for embellishment and other stitches.

Here are some of the blocks that i have made so far that will go with this heart.

These blocks will finish at 8" and that size doesn't 'fit' with the heart block but i am thinking i will put a crazy patch 'border' around the heart to get it to the size of 2 of these blocks. then they will fit together. although i don't intend to put other embellishments on these other than thread....so it can be washed....those little flat pearl beads just HAD to go on there. LOL

All of these blocks have the same pattern pieces...

And the plan is just to do stitching on them and not add buttons, beads, etc so it can be easily thrown in the washer. some of these stitches have been done by machine and some by hand.

The plan is for queen size....hopefully that will happen.

This is just a hand work project for evenings in the recliner. better give up reading for a bit and work on this baby.

I have a pile of fabrics that i am using on these blocks and hopefully have enough for the whole thing. if not, then Plan B will come into effect. LOL

After next class will show you the middle heart again and whatever new blocks i might have.

In the morning i am traveling to the Duck for a few days. it's been quite some time since i've been out there so looking forward to a bit of work and checking out how the yard looks since the yard guy pulled out my bushes.
