Pink and Brown Selvage quilt

I finished quilting the pink and brown selvage quilt. along with the all brown selvage quilt....this put a serious dent in the brown selvage box. probably can still do another brown quilt, though. those selvages go a loooong way. LOL

This one is pretty big...queen size.

I didn't have as many pink selvages as brown so i was scrambling for those. but i made it work.

I found all fabrics that had any pink in them to use.

Didn't have a problem finding browns...the box was overflowing. my brown box also has some golds.

I pieced the back with a solid light brown at the top, a pink floral in the middle, and a dark brown print on the bottom.

Closer look at the middle and bottom.

The pattern is a maze board from Quiltazoid. it goes quickly but has pretty close quilting...about an inch apart. will hold those selvages all down well.

I still have to quilt the all brown selvage quilt....it's marinating. but right now i am enamored with my embroidery machine and new embroidery cds. making baby and kid quilts. will show some ...

I'm my own worst enemy

Sigh!!!

Didn't i just say the other day that i only had 7 tops in the to-be-quilted cabinet?  just this week i have added 3 more to that pile. sheesh

Here is the latest addition. another attempt to use up brown selvages. the box is still pretty full....after 2 brown selvage quilts. but now it is not stuffed.

And i did use a lot of the pinks...so that is good. the blocks are 10" finished. i don't think it needs a border this time. and that pic up there is sideways....didn't realize i had pinned it up the long way. just pretend it is turned the correct way.

This is the back of the top.....the base that i sew the selvages to. i just use whatever i have that i want to get rid of.

Well, as i was stitching happily away....this red fabric was fading onto my machine bed....never had that happen before...but this was some cheap fabric in my inherited stash.  so i knew i needed to wash this before quilting. after 1 washing with hot water and 3 color catchers....they were pretty dark pink. so i washed again with 2 more color catchers and they were light pink....so i hope the extra red dye has faded out enough. it doesn't seem to have made a difference in the selvage side.

So, here i am....now with 10 tops in the to-be-quilted cabinet. i sure can piece them faster than i can quilt them. it's a continuous battle to catch up with myself. i have a few in there that need a custom quilt job. i think after the next customer quilt that i might pull one of those out and quilt it....i've been thinking on it. LOL

But right now i have to go work on a customer quilt.....my stuff will have to wait till..

Sweet baby quilt top

Well, it's not officially a quilt yet.....but it is a top.

While digging through fabric to donate i found some pink flannel. at first i put it in the box to donate. there was plain pink and some pink with tiny roses. then i found a charm pack that i thought would go with the pink. so i dug the pink flannels back out of the donation box and put this together last night.

It's a bit small....only 42x47.....but for a newborn it might be just the thing to wrap up with.

There were only 2 plain yellow blocks left and i threw them in the scrap yellow box.

I still have a bit of the pink roses flannel left. not enough for the backing...but i kept it anyway in the hopes i could add something to it and use it for the backing when i quilt it.

It is all flannel except for the charm squares....it will be nice and cozy.

I'm off to add more quilts to eBay today. i managed 14 of them yesterday. if you are in the market for a quilt go to ebay and check them out. my seller name is    shimmymom

You will see this

1600 ?? inches in Pink

Remember the pattern to make an easy strip quilt with jelly rolls? i made a couple of them and then decided i didn't need jelly rolls....i could cut my own strips and do the same thing. i don't know why my brain keeps thinking i can do these things....except that sometimes it really works out.

So, i pulled all my pink girl fabrics and cut 4" strips.  i had carousel horses (sorry for the blurry pic)...photography is not my forte'. LOL

And i had cupcakes

And some princess fabric...

And some plain pink thrown in for good measure. i forgot that i cut them 4" wide instead of the usual 2.5"....so my 1600 inches....maybe 2000 inches...LOL....made me a quilt of unusual proportions.  sigh!!

What to do.....so after some deliberation....i just cut it in half. hahahaha   so, now i have 2 pink strip quilts basically the same. this one got quilted up on Wednesday and i put the binding on it yesterday. i meant to show you yesterday but the day just got away from me.

This is about 55 x 65".  i found a piece of pink felt in my stash that was the (almost) right size. i had to add a couple of strips of muslin to the sides so i would have something to clamp to while quilting.

I just did a pretty large meander on it. and if you have been here long at all...you know about my lack of planning. LOL   while i am meandering along...i'm thinking to myself....felt.....hmmmm, when you wash wool in really hot water it shrinks all to hell and you have "felted" wool.  would this felt shrink and become a doll baby quilt with a really wrinkly top side?  shucks!!   so, tonight i am going to throw it in the washer on hot water and see what happens. we shall see tomorrow what i show you....a baby quilt  or a wrinkly teen size quilt. only time will tell.  i hope i didn't waste my time on this. it may become a dog quilt. LOL

The first pic of the back is a better representation of the color. i found this piece in a yard sale some time ago...like maybe 2 or 3 years. i remember the woman said she was making halloween costumes. she had lots of fabrics left over and some of them came home with me.

I have the second half of this on my frame now. i am quilting it a bit better and have muslin on the back of it....so i think it will be ok.

Results tomorrow. LOL

Pink

Judy's monochromatic color for August is Pink!  i have my pink top done already......a crazy quilt.  and i am halfway done quilting it.  so, i am ahead of the game for August. I'll show you a pic in a day or two when i have it finished.

I am managing to get to the studio for a few hours during the day. I'm trying hard not to mess up my back again. but now i am getting the urge to finish a couple jobs that need finishing.

My plant porch got painted when Josh was here working for us. but the floor only got one coat. So i have to put the second coat of paint on it and get the furniture back in there. the furniture that is parked all over the bedroom and living room now. and the books that are out of the bookcase and all over the floor. it is starting to bug me and i want it cleaned up. so maybe in a day or two i can put that second coat of paint on and be all done with that project.

I stayed up late last night...about 1:30.... finishing a book.... i had to know the ending.  so i slept in this morning till 9:45.  if you haven't read a book by JA Jance.....you need to. she is an incredible author....keeps you turning pages and wanting to know what happens next. she writes murder fiction. the part that i especially like is that the stories sort of continue from one book to the next. the town is the same....the same characters are all there....you know what is going on in their lives.....but in the midst of all this....there is a murder or 2 to be solved.  great reading.  i seem to have erratic hours these days. when i got up hubby was gone. no note....his truck is gone and the barn is closed. that usually means he went to town or somewhere. i'm trying to think.....did he tell me yesterday that he was going somewhere today?    can't remember anything.   so, i guess i'll get dressed and wander over to the studio and work on that pink quilt for a bit. he'll come back eventually.....probably with something he bought. LOL

Pink Cats and Geisha Girls

I've been absent a few days....but i've been busy....playing with pink, cats and geisha girls.

I have had this Geisha Girls fabric for a while...thinking it would make a good 4 patch posy quilt.

It's maybe not the BEST for the job...but i got some cool blocks. over several days i made many, many blocks....about 100 of them.  there's these....

And these...

And these and these....

Don't worry....i won't show you all of them...LOL   but i think it will be ok. i have to find my 4 Patch Posy book...i believe there should be a strip around the blocks. have to figure out how to use them. i also embroidered about a dozen 8" blocks of Japanese designs in redwork style on a pale orange fabric. i was thinking they would be in the border...but now i am leaning toward the design in the middle and these little blocks around the edges. don't know yet...still thinking.

And the Cabin Cats saga continues. in case you have lost count...i am on #6..Boxed Squares. pattern courtesy of Mary Johnson at (I think)  www.maryquilts.com     that might not be quite right....but the site is on the other computer at the house.

So far i have done 2 blocks...a dark and a light. i have 80 blocks worth cut out so that will be the focus of next week's night work....my second shift. LOL  they will be 6" finished.

And in between all that...i am working on some pink crazy quilt blocks a bit. i dyed some lace and rickrack and things hot pink. they all came out different shades of pink. rickrack hardly holds dye at all....i thought it would. love those little froggies. i had more pink scraps than i thought i did.

So now you are caught up with my crazy life at the farm. once warmer weather hits i will be into yard projects....i have a list.

Tomorrow i head to the Duck for serious wall demolition and bathroom madness. i shall be back on Tuesday with pictures (i hope) and tales of destruction.

In the meantime, carry on without me. be safe
