November Monochromatic Challenge

Yay...i DID get my November monochromatic challenge finished in time. i was worried there for a while. just got the binding on it last night. This month was black and white and one color. i chose yellow. most of the fabrics are from the Mellow Yellow collection. it's an eye opener.

It's about 86" x 92"....good for the couch. i cut out the flower designs with my AccuQuilt and fused them on.

I've had these fabrics for a little bit...so this was the perfect quilt for them.

I love the striped binding. It got quilted with yellow thread...top and back...with a panto. nothing much was going to show anyway.

The backing is fabric i had on a bolt that seemed a good fit. it is black and white and gray.

Now i'm going to see if i can squeeze in my other November challenge in the few days i have left in this month. first i have to do a quilt for my sister. wish me luck.

Orange Bingo Whirl

I finished piecing my Orange Monochromatic Challenge top this morning. i even used a Judy Laquidara pattern from her book...Weekend Quilts. it is called Bingo Whirl.

This is a great book...there are 3 more quilts in here that i want to make.

I took a few liberties in Judy's pattern. mine was scrappy and the background fabric didn't go in border #5 to match...i didn't have enough. and i made the final border 5" instead of 4".  but i used a lot of orange.....it was easy and quick to piece.  now i just have to get it quilted in the next 2 weeks.

I like the way this border....the striped one....turns the corner.

And i like the pieced border, too. shoot...i like it all.

I even have an orange backing. it wasn't quite wide enough so i inserted another orange fabric down the middle.

I will quilt it all with orange thread and it will be delicious.

Yellow monochromatic top is finished

I am playing along with JudyL's monochromatic quilt challenge this year. for January we need to make a YELLOW quilt. my top got finished today. so i am starting out the month well...2 days to get the first challenge done. of course, it still needs to be quilted to be 'finished' but i can do it. it is about 50"x60" and will get a fast panto and be a donation. i used scrap yellows for the background and cut 8" blocks. then put yellow selvages on each block from corner to corner to cover half of it. put a column of flying geese going up and one going down. and some flying randomly in the middle. camera is at the studio so i don't have a pic right now but will show you when it is quilted.

I feel good to have the top done.
