New England Sampler

I am starting to fuse a row quilt called New England Sampler from Brandywine Design. Here is the pattern. I believe this is from 2012.

Row 1....I will stitch it down while i quilt it....now it is just fused.

A couple of close ups. That heart might need more contrast....i can stitch around it in darker thread.

Applique quilts use so many scraps....but they are tiny....so, it doesn't add up to very much. but i guess every little bit helps.

Sashed 9 Patch

I finally finished the church donation quilt.... i am happy it is finished...it took me a week. A bunch of the church ladies brought in scraps and they all worked on it.

It started out at 92x104 but is now 90x102....that fat batting did it. I was to just sew the binding on the front and someone will stitch it down.

The quilting you see the best is where it is on the cream...sashings and middle of blocks. It went fast enough, but it was mostly ruler work.

close.jpg.5827a68d3d4463217f563fa4a2491296.jpg

It would look more even if all those little squares were the same size.

Shows better on the back.

They make a quilt every year and raffle it off sometime during the summer. they have a church festival and that is when the winner is chosen. I believe it hangs in several places to sell chances on it for a couple months. I hope they like it.

Pennies from Heaven

This top is from a book of the same name by Gretchen Gibbons, 2010.  I've been working on it about a year and finally finished piecing it.

The applique is all felted wool.

A few blocks the same....most different

A whole lot of little circles

And quite a few HSTs

I really like it and hope to hang it on the wall in my room at the Beast.

Block 5 of Merry Snowmen

I finally finished block 5 of the Merry Merry Snowmen quilt. I got side-tracked for a bit with other things but I think i am back on track....at least for now.

The snowmen didn't stand out enough on the plain white background, so i gave them hats. i think that helped.

It is sort of annoying that the quilt turns out backward from the pattern. .... but i just don't want to take that extra step to make it correct. sometimes i have to change things around a bit so they fit properly.

But, in the end, it will all be ok.

Tomorrow I am going to visit my sister and my son for a few days, so i will put this on the longarm when I return and fancy it up some. There will be batting. the inside will be a purple flannel. not sure yet how i will quilt it...gonna think on it while i'm gone.

I sure hope it all works out....i still need to fashion a collar and cuffs. if it doesn't fit me, i'll guess it will be for sale. haha

Block 4 of Merry Snowmen

Another block finished....once again, had to go back and stitch something I missed the first time around. sigh!!  will i ever get it all finished the first time around?

Another little peek-a-boo snowman

the only snowman so far that has a mouth

sparkly stars....they might need crystals.

#5 is cut out and fused...ready to stitch.

String Theory

This is why I am cutting out hundreds and hundreds of 3 1/2" pieces....it's madness i tell you. hahaha
The pattern is called String Theory

pattern.jpg.2ee647285ad4c13f0af108db4dc913bc.jpg

The good news is that there are only 9 blocks. they are 20" square

5a5b9b0aab176_redblock.jpg.e013682451bf6b3f0ad85d939d5097eb.jpg

Of course, I had to make one to see how it went. who knows when the rest will be finished.
I was in the middle of cutting out little pieces...while the embroidery machine was humming along..... when the embroidery machine made strange groaning, gasping noises and locked up....well, crap.  machine is less than 2 months old..... place i bought it is 3 hours away. guess i'll be making a trip up to my sister's earlier than i planned. got to finish up her second quilt so i can take it to her when i drop off the machine to be fixed.  now, the cutting of little pieces is on hold also....that only happens while the embroidery machine is going.

This is NOT how i planned my day. sigh!!

Block 3

Block 3 of the Merry Merry Snowman quilt is now finished. this one took the longest.

Now i can sew the first row together....blocks 1 through 3.

The house

The tree and snowman

And, the little guy peeking in the window. haha

Now, on to block 4. I cut out the block pieces last night and the applique pieces, just need to start assembling.

Hummingbirds in Baskets

This has been a long time in the making. I started it sometime early in 2014...then it sat for months....i picked it back up in December 2014 and finally finished piecing it in January, 2015. Back in the cabinet it went....until now.

front.jpg.f743665aa7e21cd52b6d118a6df92e0e.jpg

I really wish I could finish something from beginning to end...without letting it set for years in between. by the time i drag it out to quit it, i usually don't even care for it anymore. This is 48x68".  My notes say I paper pieced the top part of the basket, with the bird and handles.

1.jpg.c485cfe766959ca4a07d1c7cc06b8217.jpg

The bottom of the baskets are selvages...naturally.

2.jpg.3899fa6b0f31164b9649240166f5691b.jpg

I did SID around the basket handle, going in to go around the bird as I got to it. and put some feathers in the black spaces in between the baskets as I traveled across the row.

3.jpg.c98e9edca690b70f18960316ba9f906c.jpg

Coming back the other way, I put some lines across in the basket...and put the feathers in the black spaces between.

4.jpg.7ac2c295909a88aa4e1307fa20b31e71.jpg

The back was something I found in the stash. A cotton, but not a quilting fabric...but it worked ok.

back.jpg.37c200bc709f678a7608687b7d49492b.jpg

The border I just quilted some flowers and feathers...making it up as I went along. The binding is a tan piece of binding that was in the binding pieces basket.

Top thread was a bright yellow Glide; bobbin was So Fine light brown.

Glad to have this out of the cabinet. It will probably be a vet donation.

All Flannel...#10 UFO piecing project

Technically, I am now finished with my UFO challenge for the month. This was the piecing project. But, like the last one, it would be nice to get it quilted this month, too.

It is all flannel. It all came from my Sharon stash. haha   There was some mountain man fabric, so I cut it into 4 1/2" squares....and there were all different colors of a leaf pattern....so i cut that up, too. and wound up with this.

The mountain man's cabin. i found enough green flannel stripe for the sashings

Bears and racoons. Some of the little blocks were pieced to make 4 1/2".  like the one next to the bear. there are quite a few of these. i used every little bit. haha

There were 13 squares left over....so i added them in the border. that allowed me to use this great stripe for the border....just had enough. i just have 1 purple block left. it will find its way into another flannel scrappy quilt one day.

I have a box of scrappy flannel pieces, i just have to think of how i want to use them.
