March Yellow Challenge

Another month is done....March Yellow month.  I didn't think I had many yellow selvages....but, I did.

The selvages made 100 blocks and they made this ...

Easter Egg Hunt

I had gray blocks with cutouts from another project, so they made the 'eggs'. I just sewed the gray cutout over the selvage block. And I got some Easter bunny fabric for the border.

Then I gathered up all the yellow bits and pieces and scraps and made...

Yellow Madness. I figured if I could have orange madness last month then I could have yellow madness this month. I found quite a few 3.5" blocks cut out, so I made a lot of 4 patches. And finished it off with crumb blocks. Blocks are 6" finished.

In looking around, I found a yellow and blue top that I started some time ago and it got pushed to the side. I found a whole bag of yellow selvages stored with this top....so I am not out of yellow selvages yet....but, I will save them for this top. This month I made 28 blocks...enough for the next round.

Another yellow top made was You Are My Sunshine....It is made with crumb blocks. Then I machine embroidered the letters on yellow so i could make it rectangular instead of square. That used a lot of yellow scraps.

For my final yellow project for the month, 2 projects got combined into one. I have had this pattern for a while....and it has been partly finished for a while....so, I finished fusing Doodle-Doo.

This is the pattern.

Mine looks like this...

Here are a few close ups...

What prompted me to finish fusing Doodle-Doo was....Chicken Feathers.  I had a dream about this top a few weeks ago and had to make it.  The original plan was to make a child size (45x60) quilt of all chicken feathers.  I used a triangle die to cut the pieces.  After making 6 rows of 'feathers', I realized this was going to take a very looooong time. haha

They all have the same backing and are 3D.

My brain kicked in and said....Hey....how about Doodle-Doo.....will that fit in here.  So, the current plan is to put the chicken feathers around Doodle-Doo and it will eventually be something like this.

I will make 6 rows of feathers for the top and then put some on the sides and it will be Doodle-Doo with Chicken Feathers. hahahaha

Of course, all this virus stuff started up pretty heavy this month, so I have been making masks for a friend who is a nurse.

And, along with all this piecing, I painted my kitchen...2 shades of orange.  You don't realize how many cabinets you have until you have to take all those doors off and paint them.  I painted almost every day and it still took me 35 days to complete. The kitchen is 12x30.  Cabinets and windows had to be primed first. And I put shelves over the windows and am displaying my coffee and tea tin collection.  Even the hubby likes the new color palette. The window trim is gray. Now I need to find some blinds.

Perhaps April will be a bit easier. We are staying in .... and getting kind of bored by now. haha

Here you go, Sis...

I've been painting my kitchen and decorating with my coffee and tea tins. my sister thought it was time for me to send her some pics, so this is for her.

If you're not my sister....don't look. hahahaha

Above the windows looking out to the back yard...

Close up of those above...

Top of that large bookcase that I drug home from the Duck. It separates my sewing area from the actual kitchen space...

Under the cabinets that hold the spices and plastic ware...

Top of my corner cabinet...

Between the 2 windows behind my sewing table...

Corner cabinet between stove and sink. Wall on the right is the section I haven't caulked or painted yet. I have to crawl into the sink to reach it. I still have to hang the paper towel holder back up. I just painted that doorway this morning, so I can hang that now...

I like the gray window trim against the orange. Even Jim says he likes it. A little surprise.

There are still many more tins to put up. I hope to get 2 more shelves up tonight. That space above the windows is tight so I might have to add more shelves down on the walls to get all the tins up there.

It's been 32 days since I started this project. I am a bit surprised that I am not finished yet. Probably have a week to go to be all finished up with the painting.

Then we have to put down the floor.  Ugh!!

Like just about everyone else that I know who sews....I am making face masks. I got a request from a nurse friend to make some.

Today I made 4 so far....These are from batiks. I made ties instead of elastic.

And I made one for me....

And one for jim...

in case we need to go out.

Back to sewing.

Yellow Madness

There was an Orange Madness last month, so figured this month there could be a Yellow Madness.
I had lots and lots of 3.5" squares of yellow. Making 4 patches with them gave me the correct size to match all the other blocks.

This one is 60" square.

The rows with the orange and green pieces are leftovers from cutting out chicken feathers (coming soon). They were sort of triangular pieces, so they got to be the middle of the blocks.

I had many 4 patches for this top; most of the rows are 4 patches.

I have used just about all the yellow bits and pieces. yeah!!

I hope to get one more yellow top pieced this month...we'll see....it's sort of labor intensive.

You Are My Sunshine

Here is another yellow quilt top for Judy's yellow March Challenge. It is 60x74"

I made 100 crumb blocks, but wanted it to be rectangular rather than square, so decided to embroider some letters and put the name of the quilt at the top. haha

I used orange fabrics for the letters and found a sun pattern, too.

I dug out all my yellow strips and bits and pieces. Some are kind of beige, or tan, or gold.... but counted as yellow for this top.

Crumb blocks come together quickly and I had 100 of them in no time.

It's amazing how many scraps you can find when you dig in the stash and through all those boxes.

Update to Easter Egg Hunt

Easter Egg Hunt got a border. It is now 62x70"

A cute border with rabbits and chicks.

Thanks to Mary Ann for still having the bunny fabric in her Etsy shop.

Easter Egg Hunt

The color for March for Judy's Challenge is yellow.

This is my first yellow top for the month. I used all my yellow selvages and made 100 6 inch blocks.

I had gray blocks with cut out centers from another project, so I used some of those to make the 'eggs'.

I sewed the gray block over a selvage block and then did a decorative stitch around the inside edge, making sure the lines of the selvages went across the egg.

Not sure if it will get a border or not. Maybe if i can find some yellow fabric with bunnies on it.

Now on to the next yellow project....crumb blocks with lots of yellow bits and pieces.

Blessings of Autumn

This was a BOM from Shabby Fabrics. It was a pattern that my friend gave me when she moved and I finally got around to getting it put together.

It's about 60x65. Hasn't been quilted yet.

All fabrics came from the stash.

I will sew down the fused edges when i quilt it.

One more for the to-be-quilted pile.
