A Bunch of Red Blocks

These red strip blocks were my UFO piecing challenge for June. it took me all month, but it did get finished on the last day. It is 75" square.

This is my design in EQ.....the blocks with the red stripe are the ones with a red center stripe with white dots.  the plain blocks have a white center stripe with red dots.

1926631392_EQpattern.jpg.e61ed5ec9b624d6e8073108e418947e7.jpg

I had lots of small pieces of red fabrics, so i cut them into 1 1/2" strips.

top.jpg.a3136433b57f4f86a58f9e28f9202039.jpg

I sort of figure this out backwards. First i construct a block...then decide how many i need to make....then go to EQ and figure out how to set them.  Most of the blocks have a red center strip with white dots....some are large dots and some are smaller dots.

And there are some blocks that have a white center strip with red dots...again, some large dots and some small. i just used what i had.

All blocks have a selvage flange on each side of the center strip. i know...when i quilt this i will be questioning my sanity.

1679814232_selvageflange.jpg.43639bf9ec0e6f37c3d03ee84da073ac.jpg

It all gets a little crazy. but, you expect that from me...right?

551234613_diffsizedots.jpg.ed318bc3f4ae12eb60d79b50b1adbd81.jpg

All blocks are sewn onto a base fabric...something i just want to get rid of that won't be used for anything else.....or whatever piece i have that i can cut the proper size block from. i am thinking when i quilt this i won't put a batting inside. between the base fabric and all the seams on the strips, it is a bit weighty right now. i'll need a dark backing so all this madness doesn't show through.

base.jpg.19014d4b83f61b5d1475916973179084.jpg

the border of red strips was also done on a base....i used a piece of muslin since i have lots of that and i could get a whole strip in one piece. the border is 4".

Today I cut out base fabrics and alternate blocks for the next " A bunch of _____ blocks". any one care to guess what the next color is?  i think this will be my color series for a while. hahahaha

JUNE UFO Challenge #6

Judy's UFO Challenge for June took me till the very last day to finish.....but I got them all finished.

My quilt #6 was Merry Mayhem Mystery Quilt #136....and it is done. this was from a few years ago.

I also quilted up the blue squares quilt .... there are 20 crazy quilt machine embroidered blocks scattered throughout. it will go in my room at my sister's.

I also managed to quilt up 3 doll quilts for Amy at A Doll Like Me.

My piecing UFO #6 project was red strip blocks. this is the one that just got finished on the last day. but not only were all the blocks finished, it was pieced into a top, too.

Piecing always goes quicker than quilting. I finished fusing and piecing and got the Country Journal of Roosters together.

This is Cowboy Christmas. the blocks are machine embroidered....and it became a top.

Dinosaur Games became a top. this one had issues....my not paying attention got the wrong creatures in the wrong blocks.....but i finangled it a bit and got it together. it is fused.

This month was all about the fusing. this Laurel Burch top is fused, too. her patterns are printed on both sides of the paper, so that was a challenge to figure out.

The embroidery challenge this month was to finish up my crazy quilt animals. I have now done all that i have. there are 2 new patterns up, but i haven't gotten them yet. she has a peacock and a dog now. i'll wait for a couple more to appear.

I think I did pretty good for June since it was a crazy month. My dh went into the hospital on the 6th and was in there for 9 days, so that pretty much took care of the first part of the month.

I am looking forward to July and hope I can accomplish a lot.....in between mowing grass. ....that is my job these days.

Hope your month went well.

A Bunch of Blue Blocks

Last year in March, in Judy Laquidara's UFO challenge, i made 20 blue crazy quilt squares. This year in March I added more various blue blocks....and today finally got it finished up.

It is 82 x 98"

The blue floral border was from a line i bought years ago.....along with 2 or 3 patterns. it's the He Loves Me line. I never did make those patterns, and am still using up the fabrics here and there.

I really like machine embroidery crazy quilt squares.  I am currently making some in creams with blue thread.

Merry Mayhem Mystery Quilt #136

My goodness, where does the time go. This quilt was started in January, 2014....and i finally finished piecing it in April, 2015. now...three years later....it finally gets quilted. i am sooo slow. haha   It's a Merry Mayhem mystery quilt...i've done several of hers over the years.

front.jpg.c9e2c673a7ab28ad933a6f27f87dd678.jpg

Panto is Star Swirl

Binding was some green and some brown pieces...leftovers.

binding.jpg.a4178273c6f29add19c8d0418c4807d4.jpg

The old question...is a quilt or is it a blanket. in this case, it is a quilted blanket....because i used a blanket found at a thrift store for the batting. most of my quilting these days has thrift store blankets and throws as batting.....much cheaper. it makes it a bit heavier, but that is not a bad thing.

Thread was Glide Aqua for the top and Bottom Line Cream for the bobbin

Cowboy Christmas

There is not much quilting going on around here these days....but there is piecing and embroidery. These designs are called Jolly Holidays 2 and are from Anita Goodesign. I decided to try something different and used a patterned fabric for the background rather than a plain color.

top.jpg.4392117b524b586a074534d7af72d295.jpg

Each block is 12" because the designs are 6x10".

wreath.jpg.5950272072e9c91fa0934cf0776ac208.jpg

I love the boots

boots.jpg.8a5b45f1fd4c59cd16269032b3ef1509.jpg

I made 2 of this design because there were only 8 designs. Did you notice the polka dot ribbon...cute.

1224895530_bowandholly.jpg.054c3c7c89700247abf1527bb16bb99d.jpg

The cactus is almost as cute as the boots.

cactus.jpg.f54d4485ffbd2afaf1761b1225ab3781.jpg

The blocks are applique, too.

The top is 54" square

Now it has to marinade a while in the to-be-quilted cabinet.

Tara's Graduation Quilt

This quilt belongs to my friend's grand daughter for her graduation. i've been working on it for weeks. i wanted it to be a bit modern and not just full of feathers. It is 86" square

front.jpg.ec4979ebcf06b8ff167457448454a708.jpg

It is pale green, pink and gray. she wanted white thread. the thread is kind of hard to see.

1826164668_front2.jpg.09b48cf887fd641f34e685036e879f42.jpg

It is all ruler work....circles and CC and straight lines through the rows of HSTs.

corner.jpg.c3703f5ad8fb50c62ccf083423c3de98.jpg

And, yes, there is a flange. i had to hold it back while quilting the Xs. I managed not to catch any of the flange while holding it back. i'm proud of me. haha

519517989_9patchcircle.jpg.f9c41a95cdedbe642a3fa864d4e2bbd2.jpg

there are a few feathers in the border in the small ovals that are between the half circles.

borders.jpg.0996411357b1e12a2d66965f596c019a.jpg

It all shows up better on the back.

1998896088_backborder.jpg.0eb310f13a25613572e43e1046cd2d51.jpg

There were lots of starts and stops...especially with those lines. and some backtracking there, too.

920123890_backcircle.jpg.932f5dfa300f740dbdf5a5315964dc03.jpg

Glide white for the top; Bottom line Statue for the bobbin.

I delivered it yesterday and she loved it. so, now it is on her to get the binding on and off to the grand daughter. i just can't get excited about quilting for others these days, so i am glad this one is finished.
