February was Orange month

In Judy's Color Challenge, February was Orange. I was afraid that I wouldn't have enough orange to do anything...ahhahahahah....was i wrong.

I started with selvages and did this....

There are no more orange selvages. It's about 60x72

Then ....

I had a bunch of I Spy blocks already pieced together as a 4 patch with the orange strip in the center, so I put them together, added a border, and this is what i got.

Then...

I had this aqua and coral top that had a few rows put together...the rows with the gray arcs on them. Plan B was to forget the rest of the gray and just put the rows together..and I got this...

Yes, I counted the coral as orange....hey, it got an UFO out of the box.

Then ...

I had these crazy quilt pumpkins that I had made with my embroidery machine, so I pieced them together and added a border and got this....

Then ...

I had some orange crumb blocks, some orange and green triangle pieces (from an unfinished UFO), and I rounded up a bunch of orange bits and pieces and got it all together into this ....

I call it Orange Madness. haha

Then ...

There was still some February left, so I pulled out this Patrick Lose Halloween fabric. There was a panel that I cut up into 10 inch blocks. And cut the coordinating fabric into strips and made more 10 inch blocks....and it wound up looking like this.

That is all of my orange fabric craziness for February.....but...there were still a few days left in the month. I have been thinking of repainting my kitchen....so, why not......new kitchen walls and ceiling and cabinets are 2 shades of orange.

Here's what the old kitchen paint looked like....it's been about 17 years and the ceiling never got finished with the paining. hahaha

Although I'll still be working on the kitchen remodel for a couple weeks, I'll move on to March fabric madness of Yellow.

I used a blue thread that matched the background and used a square panto.

Not sure where the second one is right now. I think I still had to fuse one block for it. It will get finished one day. haha

Lime Green Halloween

Well, I believe I am finished with Orange for February. no sense in using up ALL my orange....right?

So, these Halloween blocks have been pinned on the design wall for way too long....months.  I finally finished embroidering all the blocks. Yesterday I cut them into sizes divisible by 2...4 inches...6 inches.. 4x6 inches... 8 inches ... 10 inches.

Then I got out my graph paper and figured out where to place them. Got the border on this morning.

Here it is...

It came out 48x68. It's kind of child size, but not sure a child would like it. But I have a cousin who will love it.

Here are close ups of some of the blocks.

I like the kids dressed for trick or treat.

This little gal is selling her pumpkins

There were a few smaller things

One of my favorite blocks

One more thing that is a finished top. One more thing in the to-be-quilted piles. haha

Patrick Lose Halloween

I found another orange UFO....things all cut out....just needed to piece blocks and put it all together.

There was a Patrick Lose panel....with things like this.... and coordinating fabrics....many of them.

I went by the largest thing and cut 9.5" blocks.

Sometimes I had to add a bit to get that size.

Sometimes I just added corners

There were several smaller pieces that got borders.

And a couple blocks at the end that used up bits and pieces.

And I came up with this. 63x72".

I still have a bit of coordinating fabrics, so perhaps it will get a border...who knows.

I might be done with Orange for February now. Unless something else pops up. haha

Lime Green Halloween....with Orange

Another UFO find with Orange....this time Crazy Quilt Pumpkins made with the embroidery machine.

This is the original pattern for the pumpkins.

I made one original, then skipped the embroidery in the sections and just did the applique part with the embroidery on the seams. I used all kinds of Halloween fabrics.

I used the same green for all the leaves and orange for the stitches around the pumpkin.

Here it is....all together.  It is 44" square.

There always seems to be an "oops" in my projects. haha   This top had a couple oops. Sometimes I forgot to skip the embroidery detail parts.....see the orange ghosts on the right hand side.

Lime Green Halloween....i love it.

4 Patch I Spy .... with Orange

And the fun just keeps going. I found more blocks that had been pieced that had orange sashings, so i figured that would work for the February Orange Challenge from Judy Laquidara. I am on a roll for this month....I never would have guessed I had this much orange.

This is what the blocks looked like when I pieced them on August 13, 2019. I think I was at my godchild's when I did these....babysitting her dog.

This is how it all came together. I like how it looks like half blocks around the edges.

I found enough orange to match the sashing so it could have a bit of a border. It's not very large...approx. 50x60"

Makes nice 4 patch I Spy blocks.

I have a whole drawer of Halloween fabrics....and we know that holiday has a lot of orange. who knows what might be next.

Orange Madness

It's amazing that I found this much orange in the studio. I searched everywhere. Got UFO triangle blocks....9 patches left over from other projects....some 4 patches....even some HSTs...  and it all became this.

It's about 70 x 85"  Can you find the 2 selvage blocks that are pieced diagonally?

A row of 4 patches....

A row of 9 patches...smaller ones...

And larger ones....

A lot of bits and pieces became scrap blocks....rows and rows of them....

Even some HSTs...

These triangles were part of a UFO from a couple years ago. I had enough of them to make a row across the middle and another row down the side.

There is still some orange fabric on the shelve, but all of the selvages are used up and the bits and pieces are gone.

Today I searched for more orange UFOs....after all, there is still some February left.  I managed to find 3 bags with things cut out that were orange......stay tuned for more.

Coral and Aqua...with some gray

In the spirit of February is Orange....I dug out this UFO. We'll pretend the coral is close enough to orange to work.

Several rows were already finished....and the gray patches were sewn on....and the rest of the HST blocks were put together, so I just needed to sew the rest of the rows together.

This is what I got...

Plan A was to have the gray patches over the whole thing.....but, since it has been marinating for a while.....and I really wanted it finished....we went with plan B....and ditched the rest of the gray and just put the rows together. Works for me. haha

I'll use the rest of the gray patches in something else.

I bought the coral and aqua fabrics together in a bundle, so it works well together. The blocks are 6" and it is set 10x12, so is about 60 x 72.

This was the inspiration photo....copied from Mary Johnson's blog.

And now I am on to another Orange for February....it is also part of another UFO.  Should be finished before the end of the month.

Orange Selvages

In Judy's Color Challenge for the year, February is Orange. I'm using up my selvages for this challenge. Although it didn't look like there was a huge amount of orange selvages, I made 119 eight inch blocks.

And they look like this. It is 76x90

Each quarter goes in an opposite direction.  This is the middle. If you look closely, you can see that some strips are pieces sewn together. I used up the shorter pieces as I went along.

Half are vertical...

And half are horizontal...

I used the bits and pieces of leftovers to make the last block.

More orange to come.....because February is Orange....and February is not over yet.
