Birds of a Feather

I really love these little birds.

The pattern was in American Patchwork and Quilting, April 2009.

I pieced and appliqued it back in July, so it got quilted fairly quickly. it is 38x45"

The background is a light blue flannel....this first pic shows the color the best. i couldn't decide on a binding...didn't really have any stripe in a blue, so i used a white/gray.

I took a few liberties with their pattern. The pattern called for individual blocks, but i did rows so i could play with spacing.

I turned some of them

I quilted in a branch for them to stand on.

I quilted around the birds to hold down the applique and gave them a branch to stand on.

The back is a blue print from the stash...that shows gray here.  I used a Highlights Peacock blue for the bobbin but it doesn't show a lot. Top thread was Glide light gray.
