More of the 50 famous buildings of the world

Remember the 50 buildings of the world i am working on....slowly?  here are a few more blocks that are finished.

13 ... Hotel Del Coronado, Coronado, California     This is one of the last examples of the wooden Victorian beach resort...a luxury beachfront hotel.  I still have to applique tiny windows all over the thing.

Check out that 3/8" flag flying over the Hotel Del Coronado.   these blocks are getting crazy

24 ... Mission San Luis Rey    Oceanside, California   One of 21 Spanish missions established in California, this was started on June 13, 1798 by Padre Fermin Lasuen.

26 ... Burj Khalifa   Dubai, United Arab Emirates   The tallest man-made structure in the world; 2,717 feet high with 163 floors.

27 ... Big Ben   Westminster, London      The third tallest freestanding clock tower in the world. i still need to applique the clock face.

44 ... Brandenburg Gate    Berlin, Germany      Formerly a city gate, was refurbished in 2000 with private funds and is now one of the most famous landmarks in Germany.

45 ... Statue of Liberty  Liberty Island, Manhattan, New York   still need to applique points of crown

46 ... Sagrada Familia    Barcelona, Spain    A large incomplete Roman Catholic Church, not expected to be completed until 2026. Begun in 1882, after 40 years, less than a quarter of the project was completed.

46  .... my choice of fabrics weren't the best.....this is how it should look. LOL

49 ... Cathedral de Brasilia    Brasilia, Brazil     The Roman Catholic cathedral for Brasilia and the seat of the Archdiocese of Brasilia. Opened in 1970, it was declared a National Historic and Artistic Monument in 1990.

Still quite a few of these to do.....the piecing is getting really crazy...but i shall persevere.

Laundry room door progress

It is still pretty cool at the Duck to work without heat.....but i putzed around for a few days. i did some more zentangle work on the laundry room door.

That working above your head thing is hard....so i moved down a bit so i could sit. haha

zen 1.jpg

Needs a lot more work....but it's a start

zen 2.jpg

I am liking the spider

zen 3.jpg

Got a few more feathers filled in, too

zen 4.jpg

I was originally thinking i would do the wall next to the door also but now think i better stop with the door. i'll be 96 years old before i am finished the way it is. LOL

Graffiti bedroom wall quilt

The graffiti wall quilt will have 21 'blocks'....17" square. 'sashing' and borders are 2" wide....wood.  dimensions are 135" long and 59" high. perhaps i should have made the border wider....but it is what it is at this point.

I got the scaffolding up on sunday and the first 11 blocks installed on monday. it was much simpler than i had thought it would be. sorry the scaffolding is in the picture, but i still need it for the rest of it. just pretend it is not there. haha

Here are a few closer shots

And you know 1 or 2 shots have to be blurry ... right?  or it wouldn't be me. haha

close 4.jpg

I really am low on black graffiti and am using some gray.

After i got it all assembled, i went back with a small paintbrush and painted in any background wall that showed where the cutting wasn't quite straight. i think it worked out well.

close 7.jpg

From across the room it looks awesome.

I was lucky to find a few more bags of goodies while scouring yard sales and thrift shops last weekend, so graffiti lives on. haha

More Halloween Town blocks

It's been a slow journey but these blocks are almost done.

17A ... Werewolf

18A ... Zombie #1

19A ... Zombie #2 ... his girlfriend i am guessing haha

20A ... Trick or Treaters ... brave little children

21A ... Frog ... it has the witches' hat on.....it might have been the witch and shape shifted. haha

22A ... Ghost #1

23A ... Ghost #2

24A ... Igor

Cornerstones .... need to make about 10 more of these

One more block to go and more sashings.  i have started to assemble what i have so it might not be long before it becomes a top.  then to be quilted...some day. haha

My 7 hour lesson .... a sad tale

Some days.....it just does not work out as you intended.....this was one of those days.

This was a quilt that drug on for YEARS....pieces were cut with AccuQuilt machine on November 18, 2012. i worked on it off and on for a couple years and then it went to UFO status on February 18, 2015. on March 15, 2015 i finished piecing it.

Remember this?

top.jpg

And promptly realized it was pieced wrong. back to UFO status

OK....March 17, 2016.....i drug it out again....and spent 2 hours turning 4 blocks around so it was pieced correctly.

front.jpg

I had a quilting plan....and spent 5 hours stabilizing all the rows.....all the way down the quilt. and quilted 1 block and 1 setting triangle.

I realize NOW that my mistake from the beginning was to use that black and white and gray fabric. NOTHING shows on there. i was quilting using red thread.....even went over the circles 3 times.....yuck.

Sorry, i don't have pics of that. my card reader died in my camera....i bought another one on amazon and it was a dud.....it corrupted my pics and i lost most of them.

This is all the pics i have left......a corner....hahahaha  the quilt was 62x78

corner.jpg

i was NOT ripping all that out. i slept on it for the night. thought about throwing it all in the trash. but, just did a large meander over the whole mess.

Then cut it all into 4 pieces and put a binding on them with whatever bits and pieces of binding i had here......and took them to my son for doggie blankies.

dog blankies.jpg

The dogs love them. hahahaha

I really want to try this again.....with different fabrics. but i might need to forget about it for a while first.

Why do these things happen to me? i think i have bad quilt karma.  sigh!!

Home for Larry's 'stuff'

My son, Larry, is sort of a Fred Sanford......remember the junk man on tv years ago?  haha    he goes around the neighborhood 'rescuing' things people put on the curb. brings them home, tears them apart, and remakes something else.

He is currently working in my sister's garage, where he is staying, but the garage was pretty full....and overflowed into the back yard pool house.....and some stuff in the driveway, under tarps. i believe my sister suggested he was getting a bit out of hand. haha

So, i offered part of my garage.....2 bays worth.....for the storage of some of his 'stuff'.  all good stuff....he assures me. LOL

Monday we had a Beverly Hillbillies caravan down the highway.....40 miles from Larry's garage to the Duck's garage.

Larry's truck...

My sister's truck....

I didn't get a pic of my truck. but i have a camper shell so it couldn't be piled high, but the back was full.....for the second time. i took a load on sunday also.

The only thing here that is mine are those 2 boxes sitting on pallets.

The wood on the shelves is mine but larry will be using it for his projects.

He has it stored neatly in rows.....so, so far, you can get around fairly easily. we'll see how long that lasts. haha

I might need a sign for the garage.....Fred Sanford's Place.   did he have a name for his shop?

Sleepy Time

My card reader in my camera died, so i am trying to catch up the last few weeks work. still have issues with new reader. this was quilted on March 27, 2016

This is a baby quilt made by my sister for a new baby in her life. it is 56" square. she embroidered the blocks.

front.jpg

Second border got meander with some little stars thrown in for good measure. last border was a wavy piano key.

corner.jpg

I did some CC in the half square triangles....then just pretended all the blocks has those and continued around the rest of the blocks.

The little animals are just too cute

She requested brown thread for the top, so i used Glide Sienna...and Glide Cream around the animals. Bottom Line 602 Gold for the bobbin

The back was a minkie with the bumps...very soft
