Pennies From Heaven

My note says this pattern is by Gretchen Gibbons, 2010. Where I got it....i have no idea. haha  I finished piecing it this year....January. So, actually, it got quilted pretty quickly.  Perhaps because it is rather small....46x58"

front.jpg.8043a9c5b4e5f28fe1c9ffa1081d36d3.jpg

It was hand appliqued in wool...which i love to do. The binding is the same fabric as the background in the center block.

The curvy edges got fused down first, then stitched down.

That little green in the middle of this flower has sparklies on it....and then it was all over everything. when i used that green again, i turned it over. haha

There were a few pieced blocks.

The green background in the applique blocks is the same as the backing.

Why is it the pictures always make you doubt yourself? in the pics, it looks like i should have quilted the background, too. on the quilt, it looks ok. i WAS thinking of pebbling the background and then decided it was too much. haha   perhaps i should have.

I really like how the quilting shows on the back.

Threads used were Glide Celery, Sand, Jade and Cobalt for the top and Bottom Line Statue for the bobbin.

I'm keeping this one.

1847 Baltimore Bride's Quilt

This pattern is from Lake View Primitives. You don't normally see a quilt done on a black background, so i guess that is what intrigued me about this one. plus it is applique....it did it in wool felt.

The pattern...

The top. I changed it up a bit and put in some gray sashings. Black and gray are flannel.

And, some of the blocks....

Her pattern was 65x83"....mine came out about 68 x 91".

Now, the question is...what color to use to quilt it?   i know it won't be black....i'll never be able to see that.

Christmas Crazy Quilt

I finished piecing this crazy quilt on December 7, 2015. It is machine embroidered and appliqued. These blocks are designed by MollyMine.com   If you have an embroidery machine and have not used her designs, you are missing out. she is an awesome digitizer.

It is 58" square

I stitched around the sections in each block...and sometimes around a picture if it was rather large.

There are several birds in these Christmas designs.

I have all of her crazy quilt design series. they come in different sizes and there are some for Christmas, Halloween and just plain crazy quilt squares. i have used the designs and skipped some embroidery sections if my fabrics are too busy. And you can use just a few blocks and turn them around and they look different. there are usually 20 designs in a set.

Past and Present

This is my piecing UFO #8 for the month of March.

This quilt is from a pattern called Past and Present, designed by Amy Walsh, found in the February 2008 issue of American Patchwork and Quilting. She made hers square...10 rows by 10 rows....but i prefer rectangular, so mine is 10 rows by 12 rows. And hers is browns and blues and i used browns and neutrals and hand dyed pinks for the little squares. Hers is 60" square...mine about 60x72.  Otherwise, it is exactly the same...hahahahaha

The pattern

The top

A couple close ups

Finished blocks are 6" square. It used quite a bit of leftover fabrics I had in the stash. It will get quilted someday....after marinating in the to-be-quilted cabinet. That cabinet is getting almost too full to close the doors...I better quilt more and piece less. haha

A Country Journal

This is a block of the month pattern called A Country Journal from Maggie Walker Designs. It is from 1998. There are 8 blocks and a border....and a morning glory vine going around it. I am fusing it and will sew it down when it is quilted. It is rather fiddly and there are many pieces.

Block 1...Hamburg Silver Spangled Male

The pattern...

Block 1...

Block 6 ... Japanese Grey Bantam

Block #6...

Block #5 ... Plymouth Rock Partridge (left) and Hamburg-Golden Spangled Female

Block #5..

OK....3 down....5 to go....and a border....and a vine.   haha

Stay tuned.

New England Sampler

Finally got the New England Sampler pieced.

This is the pattern....I got it from my friend, Sharon.

My iron died about half through pressing it......why can't someone make an iron that works for about 20 years instead of about 2 years.  sigh!!

There were a few hours in front of the tv....cutting out all those pieces. and getting the vines to join up with the basket at the corners was a challenge. haha

Cutting vines...and reversible vines....was also a challenge. some got cut twice. haha

This is going to be so much fun to quilt.

This row got wool applique flowers.

Is that a tulip tree?

Another pieced row.

How cute are these bunnies?

It is about 51x57. now it has to marinate before quilting.

Let's go see what other Sharon patterns I can do.
