Judy's July UFO Challenge....#11

July was a fast month for me. I'm not sure where it went. I did a little quilting, some piecing, a bunch of embroidery...and a lot of yard work.

My quilting UFO was Shop Hop Fantasy.  it was a fun one.

I also quilted the wool applique flower baskets. This were hand stitched over several months when I visited my sister.

I could have had one more quilted, but i procrastinated. i only lack one little space to quilt..about a square foot....maybe tomorrow....haha.

I did more piecing than anything this month....as usual.

This is called Birds of a Feather. I found it in a magazine and it was a good one to use up those bright pieces of fabrics.

I call this one crazy flowers. I had a floral fabric that was bright and cheerful that I wasn't sure how to use, so this is what happened to it.

This is black and white 4 patches with yellow flowers fused in the middle of the 4 patches. just something to use up some b/w fabrics. the flowers were cut with the Accucut machine.

This alphabet top was made from felt finger puppets that my sister gave me. she also gave me the purple fabrics that i used as the backgrounds. she was de-stashing. haha

I found this in a book by Debbie Fields called Wilderness Quilts for kids.  She had larger applique bugs, but i embroidered mine.

My embroidery UFO was Rodeo....and I got the blocks finished this month. it will be for my son when it gets put together and quilted.

My other embroidery project for the month was Laurel Burch Dogs. i really like her stuff. Here are a few of them. I named this one after our dog.

Indigo and Charlotte. I used two different browns for the backgrounds, so your eyes are not playing tricks on you.

Papillon and Poppy.  these must be show dogs...they are fancy.

Vanessa and Kona

Now I am ready to see what August has in store for me.

The rest of the Laurel Burch Dogs

I embroidered like a crazy women and finished up the rest of the dogs. I am going to my sister's on Thursday and wanted to take them all with me so she could pick out the ones she wanted. these are some happy dogs. haha

When you are the middle dog, you need a tough name...like Butch. hahahaha

And, if Blossom had a pup...it would have to be named Bud, right?

I named this one after my dog.

Along with the dog patterns, there was a pattern for Laurel's signature. so, i put it on the sun block. i couldn't get it any larger, though. i don't know what the sun has to do with dogs, but its ok.

Now i am done with these until they get pieced and quilted. on to something a bit saner and slower.

More Laurel Burch Dogs

i have done several more dogs. i decided to embroider their names on there also. here is what i have so far.

This one is Dot....and little Dot. i didn't take another pic after i added her name.

Sometimes I take really crappy pics....oops.  he has a hummingbird on his nose. He didn't have a name, so i named him Crack.  i've been reading about drug addiction. hahahaha

Laurel makes some funky dogs. I am using the colors that are on the CD.

Laurel Burch Dogs

I really like Laurel Burch stuff. I saw an embroidery CD with her dogs and decided I needed that. haha

I really need to start looking at the digitizers for my CDs.  this one is by OESD....and I don't particularly like them as well as others. I don't think their digitizers do as great a job.

Here is the first dog I did.   they call it Polka Dot Poodles.

I don't know why my camera is so persnickety.  that background is actually a chocolate brown. but the colors of the dog are accurate.

Hopefully, after I do a few more I will like them better.  There are 25 dogs.

Cut out kit....Fuchsia Furrows

Today I cut out Fuchsia Furrows.  It was designed by Cheryl Adam and the pattern is found in McCall's Quilting Jan/Feb 2014 issue.

This is her pattern. I doubt if i add the applique vines and flowers on there....but, i might.  you never know.

I didn't have anything fuchsia colored....mine is more dark red. these are my pieces

And these are my 'sashing' strips and binding. These are the same color as the red above....that camera is tricky.  the top photo is the correct shade of red.....more a maroon.

It will be a quick piecing, but who knows when i will actually do it. haha

Don't Bug Me

I found the cutest kid quilt in a book called Quilts for Wilderness Kids of all ages by Debbie Field.  This is her pattern. She used applique bugs.

But I had a bug embroidery CD and used that instead. Here is my top. It is 44x65".  I know, I haven't ironed it yet.

I think the cute title is what got me. I got it all pieced together while the embroidery machine was making the bugs. a pretty quick pattern.  The praying mantis and the lady bug got on the title piece.

I love the sleeping bug....it's just perfect for that title.

The bugs I chose were....beetle.  i like how colorful he is.

Firefly and lightning bug. Are those not the same bug...just different name?

Earthworm and inchworm

Gotta have a butterfly

And, a spider

And a wasp.  not a bug a child would try to catch, but it was cute anyway.

I was thinking i might applique a few of her bugs on there randomly, too....in black.  just a thought.
