Catch-up on Embroidery blocks

I've been doing a little of this and that...quilting.... graffiti .... and embroidery blocks.

Halloween Town

5 .... Vampire

6 ... Tombstone #1

7 ... Witch #2

8 ... Crow

9 ... Bride of  Frankenstein

10 ... Skeleton

11 ... Tombstone #2

These take so long to stitch out...and use so much thread....i might have to keep this one for myself and decide to like Halloween decorations. haha

And I've finished a few more from the CD 50 Famous Buildings of the World.

#23 ... The Beehive Building, Wellington, New Zealand

This building is actually the executive wing of the New Zealand Parliament Building and houses the prime minister's offices as well as offices of cabinet ministers. It is 10 stories high with 4 additional floors below ground. The roof is constructed from 20 tons of copper.

#29 ... The Capitol Building, Washington, DC
A 5 level building, the ground floor contains congressional offices. The Rotunda, a circular space that displays American art, is under the dome in the center of the building.

#43 ... Burj Al Arab .... Jumeira 3, Dubai, United Arab Emirates

The Tower of the Arabs is a luxury hotel located on the same island as the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, building #32. It is the 4th tallest hotel in the world, but there are only 202 bedroom suites; the smallest suite is 1,820 square feet, while the largest covers 8,400 square feet.

So, far, i have done these as 7" blocks. i have 30 of them finished. some of the spaces are so tiny as to be almost non-existent.  so, i have decided to do the last 20 as 8" blocks....and am hoping for a break in piecing those tiny spots.

In designing the quilt, the smaller blocks will go in the middle, with the larger ones around the edges. i think it will work out fine.i will embroider the names of the buildings and their locations, also.

I will be happy to be done with all these....but it is still a few weeks away from that accomplishment.

#7 Cabin Cats ... Selvage Squares

I had bought end of bolts of Cabin Cats fabric several years ago. this is the last of that fabric line. i made 7 quilts from all of it....about 35 yards of fabric.

This one is Selvage Squares...6" blocks.

I had 4 extra blocks so used them for the corners.

This was my Cabin Cats series quilts. haha

Here are the others.

#1...Jelly Roll Cabin Cats

#2 Take 5 Cabin Cats

#3 Log Cabin Cats

#4 Strips Cabin Cats

#5  Stairsteps Cabin Cats

#6 Boxed Squares Cabin Cats

I started these in 2011....and most of them are still waiting for quilting. hahahahha

Embroidery Sampler

I have the embroidery sampler pieced together finally. i found the perfect fabric in my stash for the sashing and border. now to get it quilted....someday.  It is 46x58

Some cool blocks....4 leaf clover

Apple

Teddy bear

Wedding bell

Dog bone

Butterfly

Easter Egg

Flower

Heart

Leaf

Mitten

Owl

Birthday Present

Pumpkin

Seashell

Star

Summer Sun

Teacup

Christmas Tree

Vintage Shoe

These are all applique. they can be done in so many ways and colors and fabrics. you could put together the tree, mitten, present, bear, star, heart and flower and have a Christmas quilt just by changing the fabrics. Or, you could pick 12 and have a monthly quilt....or separate wall hangings. so many choices.

A neat little quilt.

Halloween Town....more blocks done

How can you not like these blocks?  scary but cute.

Block 2A .... Black Cat

Block 3A ... Witch #1  hard to tell in the pic, but her face and hands are a pale green. haha

Block #4 .... Scarecrow

I did block 3 AND 4 today. the scarecrow only took a bit over an hour...but the witch took over 2 hours.

Although i did quilt a bit yesterday, there was no quilting going on today....these are much more fun.

Oh, and i finished using all the red selvages....just need to trim about 50 blocks. and all the purple selvages are gone....and the orange might be finished tonight.  today i started on the green... there are LOTS of those...so it will take a while.

There are so many areas that need work in the studio .....selvages ....quilting.... piecing UFOs..... finishing projects ...... it is hard to know what to do. might take me another 10 years to clear everything out. but i am working it.

Halloween Town

I have been working on the Shop Hop embroidery CD blocks for a couple weeks now and have 7 or 8 of them done....and now i am bored with them.

So, on to a new project.  This is Halloween Town.  it is a CD from Anita Goodesign....Special Edition.  there are 25 blocks plus designs for sashings and cornerstones.

I am using size A...the 8" block.  i don't know what my fascination with Halloween is....but i always like to do those blocks.

There is something about the creepy blocks that appeals to me. LOL

I even decided to follow the directions for this project....normally i just do my own thing.  i am using the stabilizer that they recommend....

Am using this batik for the sky in all blocks....

And this batik for the land in all blocks...

This is block 1A.  It has batting already in it.....and there is stippling in the sky and ground, so it is quilted. after all blocks are embroidered, it just needs to be sewn together. but once i add the backing i will quilt around the blocks and then go around the house...just enough quilting to keep it all together.

We'll see how many of these i get finished before i get bored and go on to something else. but i have learned to keep all the fabrics and threads and stabilizer used together so when i go back to it, i'll have everything i need. and i make notes of size i used and anything else i might need to know.

They are pretty labor intensive...this one took 2 hours.  Stay tuned tomorrow for the next block.
