Hexies

I got a new die for my Accu-Cut machine.....3 different size hexies...2", 3" and 5"    the only drawback is you get 1 of each size for every cut. so, i cut out a few and played. then decided to just cut the larger ones.

I had some leftover animal fabric and started with those

and added some greens, yellows and black to the mix

This is my 'practice' piece for a larger hexie project.

I'm going to piece this one by machine

It will be baby size when finished.

I hope i can start working on putting it together tomorrow.....wish me luck.

Flowers for Baby

This little cutie was pieced by my sister. she has a friend going to have a baby in a few months and she is determined that the baby stay warm.

I like that she used the same fabric for the center of the blocks and the border

Lots of bright colors

I used lime green Glide for the top and So Fine dark pink for the bobbin.  it's about 60x75

Disappearing 16 Patch

Horray....the monster is off the frame. all month.....this is the only thing i have quilted this month.  sheesh!!

This baby is huge....96 x 114" .... don't ask me what i was thinking....my brain died years ago. this was finally pieced on July 15, 2013.  i think it might be a catalog of all the fabrics i owned back then.

front.jpg

The border needed to be a bit wider.....but, (1)..this is already huge...and, (2) .. i think that is all i had of that butt ugly, heavy print.

border.jpg

I don't want to do feathers or swirls for a while now.

close 1.jpg

I used my 8" circle on the blocks

block.jpg

I think i like the back better

back.jpg

I just did a few stitches at starts and stops and didn't tie and bury threads on this one so there are some issues at a few of those spots.

back close.jpg

I used a variegated Signature thread for the bobbin....it is pretty thick....it took 28 bobbins to quilt this thing.

Glide aqua for the top; Signature variegated Atlantis for the bobbin

Up next is a baby quilt for my sister....should be done in a couple days. then at least i can say i quilted 2 this month.  i am waaaayyyy  behind on this quilting thing.

Duck Graffiti .... all over the house

I got to spend a couple days at the Duck this weekend and had some fun.

I have blocks 12 through 19 added to the bedroom wall.

Just 2 more to go and the bedroom wall graffiti quilt will be finished

So, then, i decided i needed Legos on the little wall space in the hall between the kitchen and dining room. i had already put graffiti boards around the doorway there.

First step.....paint the wall black and attach a narrow board to the corner.

step 1 black paint.jpg

After first day, legos were waist high.

day 1 waist high.jpg

After second day, legos were about 10" from the ceiling. at this point i ran out of glue and was too lazy to go get more. plus, once i opened the tube, i had to use it all or it would dry up.

day 2 10 inches from ceiling.jpg

i am using the same glue on the outside of the house where i am putting blocks around the front door, so will finish up the legos and the outside blocks on the next trip.

close up.jpg

I had some little lego flowers and thought i would add them for interest....wish i had more of those.

flowers on lego wall.jpg

I do have some little lego people. i am going to add a lego shelf....or 2....and put some lego people and animals up there, too.

And, as if that wasn't enough.....i decided the next graffiti project should be the wall around the doorway in the living room. this leads to the spare bedroom....where the graffiti quilt is on the wall.

So, i measured everything .... painted a section black.....and made a paper template to take home and cut out a couple pieces of luan to get started.  i am thinking it will just be a conglomeration of black, white, grey, silver with a smidge of red. we'll see how that goes. black and white pieces of graffiti are hard to find so this wall might take a while.

I actually got something accomplished that didn't involve graffiti pieces or legos.  i put another coat of paint on the pocket doors. one has second coat and one has first coat. those are really tall doors.

Since it is too much fun to work on graffiti and legos and such, the actual WORK on the house is suffering....like sanding floors, tape and mud on walls, finishing up baseboards and such.  sigh!!!    i really, really need to do some actual WORK on this house. hahahaha  .....   or not.

Country Ads

This quilt was finished a few weeks ago, but got caught in the vortex of my dead camera card reader. pics got corrupted and i had to take them over.

This was pieced May 25, 2013 and finally quilted March 17, 2016.  i guess it marinated long enough. It is 64 x 78".

front.jpg

I had found some of that fabric somewhere with the white background....just a bit. probably a yard sale or something.  then i found more of it with the black background. score!!

border.jpg

So, i cut out little bits and pieces of the ads....and using the colors that were in the pic, put borders around them till i got a 5" square, then added the white background.

More of the 50 famous buildings of the world

Remember the 50 buildings of the world i am working on....slowly?  here are a few more blocks that are finished.

13 ... Hotel Del Coronado, Coronado, California     This is one of the last examples of the wooden Victorian beach resort...a luxury beachfront hotel.  I still have to applique tiny windows all over the thing.

Check out that 3/8" flag flying over the Hotel Del Coronado.   these blocks are getting crazy

24 ... Mission San Luis Rey    Oceanside, California   One of 21 Spanish missions established in California, this was started on June 13, 1798 by Padre Fermin Lasuen.

26 ... Burj Khalifa   Dubai, United Arab Emirates   The tallest man-made structure in the world; 2,717 feet high with 163 floors.

27 ... Big Ben   Westminster, London      The third tallest freestanding clock tower in the world. i still need to applique the clock face.

44 ... Brandenburg Gate    Berlin, Germany      Formerly a city gate, was refurbished in 2000 with private funds and is now one of the most famous landmarks in Germany.

45 ... Statue of Liberty  Liberty Island, Manhattan, New York   still need to applique points of crown

46 ... Sagrada Familia    Barcelona, Spain    A large incomplete Roman Catholic Church, not expected to be completed until 2026. Begun in 1882, after 40 years, less than a quarter of the project was completed.

46  .... my choice of fabrics weren't the best.....this is how it should look. LOL

49 ... Cathedral de Brasilia    Brasilia, Brazil     The Roman Catholic cathedral for Brasilia and the seat of the Archdiocese of Brasilia. Opened in 1970, it was declared a National Historic and Artistic Monument in 1990.

Still quite a few of these to do.....the piecing is getting really crazy...but i shall persevere.
