Part II at the Duck

I did my garage graffiti star at the Duck in the morning. i was there at the crack of dawn at 6:30. haha  a lot cooler then. i left about 11 when it started getting hot. went to the beast and hung with my sister for a bit....then took a nap for a while.

But, i came back about 5:30 in the evening when the sun was past the front porch. And finally finished the door surround on the front door. i think it's been unfinished for 2 years. but once i got the porch built, then i could reach the top part safely. didn't take long to finish it up. and now i notice the brown paint is peeling in places....always something.

And i put my house number back up, too.

I attached the blocks around the door with Lock Tite....a construction type adhesive in a tube that you use in a caulk gun. you don't want to leave a partial tube unused as it will just harden and be unusable in the future. It took a bit more than a tube to finish the door....so i used the remainder to put my legos on the living room chimney in the corner. it is now about 4 foot tall.

And i measured for the pieces to finish up the black and white wall next to the lego chimney, so that will be the next pieces i work on.....until i run out of black and white graffiti pieces again.

It was pretty warm working there so i only worked for the day. I have poison oak all over my arms and legs from cleaning the fence line at the farm, and hot and sweat do not go well with poison oak....it just makes it itch more.

I am looking forward to a break in hot weather to do more.

Garage Graffiti Star Finished

Wednesday I got the last of the graffiti star hung on the garage at the Duck.

This cannot really be seen from the street, so no neighbors have wanted to run me out of the neighborhood yet.  And you can't see it from the side, because of the neighbor's wooden fence on that side that is 6' tall. So, so far i am safe. haha

Here are a few close ups

star close 1.jpg

When i put a screw in here, i knocked one of the green poker chips loose. I forgot to fix it when i was there, so that is a 'next time' fix. haha

star close 2.jpg

When i measure, i always try to measure a bit short to make sure things fit....but this top right corner piece didn't want to go in. I had to trim off about 1/2"...for about 2" long. but it is under the eaves and really not visible unless you look for it. the jigsaw cut through the plastic as well as the wood. i am pleased with that.

Then when i got to the top at the other end....which has irregular side cuts....it didn't want to line up correctly. so, instead of any cutting, i just left it....and painted to make it less noticeable for the moment. when i go back down next time i will take red and green pieces and fill in that space.

After all that, i got to looking at the grass and weeds that were all growing up along the sidewalk...and in the cracks of the sidewalk, so i pulled that all out.

I went all around the corner to the gate. I disturbed a lot of ant families...and they disturbed me a bit, too. but that looks a lot neater. i filled 2 trash bags.

This is the next section I will cover. that door is sealed shut from the inside, so does not open. i will add some 2x4s and plywood to make it come up even with the sides and then cover it with graffiti.

2nd section.jpg

It is a narrow section.....42" wide and 79" high. I am trying to think of a quilt pattern to put there. My first thought was a French Braid but i don't know if that is wise as there will be a lot of small sections. Or i could do a row quilt.....with different simple blocks in each row.

Have you a different idea for me there? what do you think?

Elliot's Racing Car Quilt

My sister embroidered these blocks and made this quilt for her boyfriend, Elliot. Elliot is 3 years old and just got a race car bed. That boy is in love with cars.

Elliot will be dreaming of cars....but, he probably already does. I don't know...will he be a mechanic, a race car driver, own a car dealership?  or change his mind and become a chef or something.

This was another collaborative effort between my sis and I.  i embroidered the blocks...she saw them and wanted them...so i gave them to her and she put together the quilt top...and i quilted it for her. it will hang in the 'Christmas room' at the beast.
