Month is almost over

My green month is almost over....who knew I had so much green.  And, trust me.....there is still LOTS left.

Yesterday...April 27....I made 30 green crumb blocks.

This morning I went to the studio to play.

I haven't been reporting my machine embroidery crazy quilt blocks....but I made #18 of 20 today.

I am trimming them to 8 inches, but they might need a tad more trimming. we'll see.  I am using all hand dyed fabrics that I THINK I got from Vickie Welsh years ago. There are lots of greens and browns with a few black, peach and blue. I love them.

And I have a pumpkin crazy quilt on the longarm. I have all the SID finished and today finished the sashings and borders. Just need to get those blocks done. There are 16 blocks, so it is just wall hanging size.

I spent the last couple of hours on the riding mower at the studio, so that is finished. There was some standing water with all this rain, but I powered through. haha

Now going to chill for a bit and then decide what to sew on this evening.

Catching Up

I'm trying to catch up on my daily progress reports. haha

April 24....Made 20  6.5" Hara scrap blocks

April 25...Made 10 more Hara scrap blocks

And....6 log cabin blocks ... just using up strips of scraps....half on each side.

April 26 ... 7 picture frame blocks...using the same fabric for each round....using scraps.

And...14 HST blocks   using greens I found in a box. I made several different versions. The blocks were already made and they were 3.5", so they turned out perfectly at 6.5"...just what I wanted with no border needed.

And,  I started working on this Irish Chain.  Here is my pattern.

I have 3 blocks made so far....I need 45 of them. I have a shoe box full of 2" pieces cut out that I cut over the last couple weeks while the embroidery machine was working.

And, the last week or so I had another squirrel moment....I found this piece of fabric in my stash....

I don't have much of it....but those blocks are just a tad over 1 inch.

So, I cut strips 2" wide of colors to match and put 2 rounds, and trimmed the blocks to 7.5" That first round is the killer...the seam is about 1/8". haha  I mixed up light, medium and dark fabrics, using what I had. So far, I have 12 orange...

9 pink....

11 purple

Now, I am back on track with my green challenge blocks....and am hoping to finish the month with greens....if no more squirrels jump out at me. hahaha

Hara Leftovers

Remember when I showed Hara a few days ago....

When I trimmed all those blocks, I had a huge pile of green pieces....mostly triangle shapes and skinny triangle shapes. I couldn't make myself throw them away. So, I started piecing them together..... and made 42  six inch finished blocks.

When they were all pieced together I had this...

It is 36x42".  I am going to add more green fabrics around it and use it for the backing of Hara.

What do you think?

Still working in green

I have found tons of green scraps and strips .... I'm not sure they will ever end.

Apr 21...40 strip blocks made. These are just 6 inches rather than my usual 6 1/2...I found tons of green strips already cut to 6"...or about.  I had to add a strip to the side to ensure a 6" block. haha

April 22 .... 62 more six inch strip blocks made.

Between Apr 17 - 20, I also made...

22 crumb blocks. These are my usual 6.5" blocks.  I had some tiny HSTs...so they were the 4 patch center for 7 of them.  The others are strips left over from making masks.

I still have a week left to find more green things to make.  stay tuned

Zootropolis

This is a quilt I finished a few weeks ago....but just got the binding on today. The pattern is Zootropolis by Sassafras Lane Designs.

And a Glide dark brown for the brown parts; blue and white for the sky parts.

Hara

Hara in India means green. And April is the green challenge month.

The pattern came from Preeti....she is from India....she did hers in blue....which is Neel in India.

This is her pattern

Here is mine

It was a bit confusing to keep all those pieces together in the right place.

The stars

The secondary design

I am glad that is finished....who knows when it will get quilted.

Now, if I can stay away from the squirrels.....I can get on to something else green.

Elementary Jelly Roll

I was doing pretty good on my Green challenge stuff for the month.....then....a squirrel....Sunday I was looking at Mary Johnson't blog and she was making a quilt that looked pretty easy....so, I had to stop what I was doing and make it.

She made it with a Jelly Roll, and I just happened to have one in the studio.

So...ta da!!

Elementary Jelly Roll...it's about 48x56"

Mary's had all the same background fabric but I just paired up the Jelly Roll strips with dark and light.

I tried for the same fabrics in each block, but different colorways...and that worked for the most part.

I made 1 too many blocks so I was going to piece it into the back. I also had a handful of leftover pieces. So, I sewed the leftovers into one long strip and pieced it around and around the leftover block. I went around 3 times. So, now I have a larger block to piece into the back of the quilt.

The only piece left over from the Jelly Roll was a piece 2.5 x 4".  It went into the scrap pile. I used almost every inch of fabric.
