Anita's Baskets

I pieced this one between April and June, 2017. and finished embroidering the flowers in August, 2018. Now, I can say it is finally finished. Anita Schackelford had a pattern like this on her blog that I liked so I decided to make one.

It is 60x75

Hot and Cold

I had a couple of boxes of 6" strips, so it was time to use some of them. I made 5" finished blocks and set the hot....red, orange, yellow, pink, white....strips vertically. and the cold...blue, purple, green, black...strips horizontally.

It is 75 x 80"

We are having internet problems, so this is the only pic it would load. It was a quick project....less than a week and it was pieced. of course, quilting is going to take a bit longer.

There is a 75 page book of instructions. Gasp!!  I read a bit of it. You have to have your head screwed on straight to understand some of it. I shall take it one tiny step at a time.

Jasper's Train

My cousin has a grandson who is all about trains these days. he is almost 3. He also has train conductor pajamas, so a train quilt for nap time seemed appropriate.

front.jpg.18f1550626f204e7fc7176c81b28288d.jpg

It is 36x41. A bit small, but I think it will get drug around a lot.

engine.jpg.20f6796197fc8af538c3216813302c83.jpg

There were only 20 machine embroidery designs, so I added some train fabric for rows between.

Would have been nice if the designers had put the track in the design with the cars. ... it was a challenge to have it separately.

bear.jpg.7514577ab49d86d0ea72e4a9e0351098.jpg

I went around the embroidery, and sometimes through part of it ... and put wavy lines across.

The blue borders got a square free form design.

Backing and binding were the same fabric as the front.

I used Glide Hawaiian Blue and Silver for the top; Bottom Line Statue for the bobbin.

I have the pocket quilt for his sister, and they will go out in the mail on Monday. These are the kids who got the play food a few weeks ago. Now I have 2 little girls to make something for. I need a plan....they are both under 2.

February UFO Challenge

February was not good for quilting. I finished one quilt.....but it was the January quilt. haha

Beach Walk by McKenna Ryan

I spent 8 days at my sister's to babysit her 3 dogs. While there, I pretended I was on a quilting retreat and took many UFO projects to finish piecing. Here is what got finished.

Band Together

Color Cues...partially pieced

Crazy Quilt embroidered animals from Molly Mine

 Green Florals

Old Cars

Red Scraps in Rows

Ricky Tims Legacy...there were 20 blocks...one a month...but i got bored after 12 and quit.

Shirt Pockets....partially pieced

Under the Sea...machine embroidery

Wild Animals

And a few others got pieced in February as well...

Blue Selvages....a pattern found on pinterest

Dollhouse.  the bottom section of the blocks is a pocket to put things.

Windmills on selvages

Hola Mola

The embroidery machine has been humming along in February...

making alphabet letters

And I finished embroidering and piecing Jasper's train. It is now on the longarm to be quilted.

So, although there wasn't much quilting, it was a busy month nonetheless.

If the ice and snow would go away, March could be better.

Beach Walk

This was my January quilt.....which just got finished the last day of February. haha  There hasn't been any quilting going on around here lately.

McKenna Ryan's patterns are cool, but, my goodness, does she love those tiny pieces. It took me months to get this together and then a few weeks to get it quilted. There were multiple thread changes.

threads.jpg.53df52ae439fe1f4f608a3ec44184cad.jpg

I do like the final result. it is 52x68

front.jpg.bdde00bee91d2d4c4bdf3d209b47d28d.jpg

One of the 'fun' parts was where pieces of a block lapped over into another block....or into the border. Those jellyfish tendrils were a mess.

8.jpg.bff62d31c6d6d6e443bdeef2b9c21820.jpg

I pieced leftover sections together for the back. and used leftovers for the binding, also.

back.jpg.32aaa370943e1cbf623f4bd2aa1d3e26.jpg

Took me almost a year to get it done, but I'm glad I finished it. I think I'll keep this one.
She charges quite a hefty fee to get the kit with pieces all cut, but I'm thinking it would be worth it.
