We had a guy approach us about putting cows on our property. we have had them before and enjoyed it....so we told him yes. he is to keep the fence in repair and run a bit more fence to keep the cows out of the woods.
He also is cutting and baling about 35 acres of grass that is about 3 foot tall. they cut for 3 days and have been baling for 2. they estimated 1800 square bales to come out. they had just started cutting the day before i left for the Duck ... so i didn't get to watch the whole process.
I was concerned about the kid riding on the fender of the tractor. i believe he is the 'spotter' .... to look for any problems the tractor might have.....logs, fencing down, etc. they did scare up a couple of baby deer laying in the tall grass.
They cut all day....until after 9pm. and came back and did it again the next day.
Then they started bailing and the square baler wasn't tying properly. .... so it was a challenge. i believe they took 3 trailer loads of square bales out. then they switched to large round bales. those are laying all over the fields.
But it rained yesterday, so baling is called off till it dries up some. still have more than half to bale up. it is quite the process.
The fields look good all cut down. then they will put up a section of fence and then bring in the cows. it's kind of fun to have cows and watch their silliness.
As long as they stay out of my garden, we'll be friends. will be back with cow pics, hopefully,....
Soon

I link up to JudyL's website...doing the Back to Square One mystery quilt... www.patchworktimes.com we are on clue 6. we get one clue a month.
Judy picks 1 winner a month for those who show their progress for the month. this month there were 11 entries...that's 11 people keeping up with the mystery. well, of those 11...about half of them only showed blocks done...not all assembled....but it is still progress. but when we started, there were about 4 times that many that were playing. i am trying to keep up...i know once you get behind it is hard to catch up again.
Vicki Welsh sponsors the prizes for the winners. she hand dyes beautiful fabrics and you get a stash pack. which is 10 1/8 yard cuts. that's 1 1/4 yards of luscious to-die-for fabrics. i chose the Cotton Candy pack. it is all pinks. oooohhhhh....lovely. go take a look-see at her Etsy Shop and get you some. go to www.etsy.com and search for Vicki Welsh. you will be drooling. oh, and she has her kits on sale this week, too...15% off. the kits by Deb Levy are awesome....cats.
I love my internet friends.
Thank you again, Judy and Vicki
Always something to fix or improve. it was time for the 'woodshed' to get a permanent roof.
One thing leads to another..you know?
We got a wood stove...
Then we got wood....
Then we needed a place to store the wood to keep it dry...
We had dog kennels that were not being used for dogs....so i drug them across the yard about 50 feet...closer to the stove....and stacked the wood in them. well, it needed a roof....so i put some plastic tarps over it...and tied the ends down. worked for a year or so.
Then the winds and sun took its toll on the tarps and it got rips and tears. so, the solution...put ANOTHER tarp on top of that. hahahahaha
Fast forward ANOTHER year...yeah, you guessed it.....tarps do not a roof make.
So, it was time for a more permanent roof. it was clear the dog kennels were never going to house dogs.....sheesh, the dog has her own couch in the house...why would she want to stay outside in a kennel.
So, hubby and a friend put on a metal roof. we now have 5 buildings with this same color metal roof...the house, the barn, the studio, the studio shed, and the woodshed. it is harder than you think to get a pic of a roof. i was standing on a milk crate...holding the camera over my head and hoping for the best. i guess that just says i am short. sigh!
There are 2x6s going across first...bolted to the frame. then the other 2 sections of the kennels are on top of that (for stability). then 2x4s on top of that....with the roof screwed down to the 2x4s. that baby is not going anywhere. it is now a permanent fixture of the farm. if the next owners want dog kennels instead of a wood shed....there is going to have to be some serious dismantling going on.
Here it is from the inside. i'm wondering if i should paint those boards....at least around the edges to keep the moisture from rotting them over time.
It has about a 5 inch overhang all around the edge. the back and one side of the back room in the shed still has tarps on the inside walls. since there was wood stacked against it...i just left it. it is the north side....so that could keep snow from coming in on those sides.
It's a cute little woodshed. it has 2 'rooms'...2 kennels put together with a door between. each side is 10x10'. each year we use 1 side of wood and fill the other side to dry for the next year. works out pretty well.
Oh, yeah, it's also the backdrop for anchery target practice. those rednecks!
We have 2 more trees that need to be cut down this year....so that will fill up a good portion of that back room....that is mainly empty now. since we got the wood stove we have only had to buy wood the first year. after that, we have gotten wood from trees on our property. i can attest to the fact that it is a lot of work.....trimming and cutting trees from 40 acres and hauling it up to the shed....one pickup load at a time.
We are now out of buildings to roof so i think our roofing days are over. but i was thinking of a greenhouse....do those need metal roofs? LOL
Later
What is it about the first of the month that makes me want to be productive? i guess to be sure to have at least one good day that i have done something. hahahaha
I finished piecing the blocks together for the Through the Garden top and got the border on also. now it has to wait its turn for quilting.
The individual blocks are finished at 6". each pieced block has the same brown print down the middle, diagonally, and then the floral strips are the same on each side of the middle.
I didn't worry about how wide the strips were....they just had to be florals. or be perceived as florals.
The alternate blocks was just a floral fabric that i had from the truckload sale. and i ran out of that before i got to the end....so the last 3 rows have a different floral print. had i noticed that sooner, i could have incorporated them into the body of the quilt more. but that is what happens when you don't plan. i seem to like to travel by the seat of my pants. makes for more fun that way. if you look at the first pic....you can kinda see that the last 3 rows have a different background color on the floral blocks.
The brown strip down the middle has the 'Daisy' song on it....you know....daisy, daisy, give me your answer do....i'm half crazy, all for the love of you. hahaha hope you don't have that stuck in your head now.
It is set 12 x 15 blocks...with a 6" border. it's about 84 x 102"....give or take an inch.
Will probably get a flowery panto quilted on it one of these days. and just so you know....this top didn't even put a dent in the huge box of strips that i have.
But this finish crosses 1 thing off my Git 'Er Done Challenge list for June. i like that.
This month's clue was simple....and i got it done today. how about that? first day of the month....and i scratch 1 thing off the list already. i say celebrate!! hahhaaha
We just added borders to the center medallion. the pieced borders were already assembled in the last clue.
So, here i am....caught up with this mystery quilt.
