Robin's K#3

This one is truly a reuse, recycle, use it up quilt. haha

Scrappy blocks....pieced back....many strips of batting because my batting order is not here yet and i found a bunch of batting strips. black and white. haha

front.jpg.0f6bffb1bb26ba3834a966b2d210ddc0.jpg

It has a couple of hearts...so whoever gets it feels loved. And a lot of St Louis Cardinals fabric that will mean absolutely nothing to them. haha

1.jpg.9af4c9bec73d5236ec29cb6ad8e57eb8.jpg

some flannel cats....another heart

2.jpg.9a1767fad5691f3282e1530cac56c91a.jpg

Watermelon, monkeys. all that red fabric is about gone. I did large swirls across the blocks and fat, close wavy lines over the seams. trying to hold all those batting pieces together. haha

3.jpg.a38b1976d362b2633f8c0de47cdf21bf.jpg

The back is part thrift store sheet....on the left and green stash fabric on the right. That left piece is more green in real life. I am having trouble matching anything with fabric I have left.

back.jpg.82ae7a758c700924825849a851dd488e.jpg

Top thread is Glide Ruby; bobbin is Glide Jade.

One more to go....but have to wait on that batting order. I should have just gone and picked some up instead of online shopping. I order from Washington, MO....an hour and a half away......It ships from Washington state....what the hell....to Oregon....to Idaho....says it will be here Tuesday.  Looks like it is taking a road trip. haha

Robin's K#2

This used up the last of the batiks. I used all the bits and pieces and pieced blocks until there were no bits and pieces left.

Then I added brown, green, purple and tan blocks  from the stash to have enough.

Pretty much same as the last one....5" squares.....wavy lines through the block and over the seams.

Some of those blocks are wild....pieced with anything left over.

The back is a dark green sheet from the thrift store. I don't know if it's the camera or the operator, but I take lousy pics. haha

This one is 62 x 84".  Glide light olive for the top and Glide jade for the bobbin.

Now I have to piece backs for the other two....tomorrow's job.

Robin's K#1

My friend, Robin, works with a missionary to send quilts to poor people who live in and around the landfill in their country....above China.  I decided to quilt up a few and send them to her. A good use for using up my stash.

I had a pile of batiks that i cut into 5" squares.....and then used a row of purple/gray in alternate rows. The last purple row was what was left. haha

front.jpg.a403c98892fbff285357cee54fdee5bd.jpg

I did wavy lines across the top....in the middle of the blocks and over the seam lines.

1.jpg.b9504583923115714089194dfe6cd084.jpg

Several blocks were pieced....I used up all those batik pieces. haha

2.jpg.b784f146beef87a2f80169d41b35245b.jpg

Back is a thrift store sheet.

back.jpg.6e43108f42d3f379146bf6e2fbb92539.jpg

Glide Sepia in the top and So Fine tan in the bobbin.

This went really quickly and I now have the second one on the frame.

Brenda's #5....Snowman 2

If this looks familiar, it's because Brenda made two of these. But, this one has less embellishments and is mainly cotton applique.

I tried to limit SID since my eyes are just not working for that.

But there was still a lot of going around things.

top.jpg.957c2b5f4904bae753b76333e8d255c9.jpg

It is wider than it is tall. Not much background stitching at all

center.jpg.8f3b0d24b76a57c0b3b3bddc9266fa50.jpg

Cute snowmen all over the place

5.jpg.26e8d112554f5b806999da789212128a.jpg

Curves around all the blocks...no SID

4.jpg.ef97d2f0d98d6298c251cfc5fdba5b89.jpg

Check out this guy's ice skates.

3.jpg.f7272da3c37438a26689719e508fbb28.jpg

Look at all those French knots around the angel wings.

2.jpg.6b6a61464746e199aae35dc4742c680e.jpg

Some CC in the border...and a single line through the extra dark partial borders.

1.jpg.085f1dc77b477919f02332a0247f9367.jpg

Back was a blue. I used a navy thread but it doesn't show here.

Quilted with Glide Silver.

I'm going to take a break from Brenda quilts and do one of mine now. haha

Dream Tree

 I am easily swayed. haha

I saw this pic in the American Patchwork and Quilting magazine, issue August 2015.

pic.jpg.61ee878458ac812cbb044034d6152f69.jpg

Isn't that cute?

356871929_pictree.jpg.edd5ebb474a5be8ca4369b744e46a519.jpg

And I thought...oh, that would use up a lot of stash. I've been working on using up all my fabrics.

Well, let me tell you...I spent days and days tracing and cutting and fusing hundreds and hundreds of little leaves and flowers and such.

And then....days and days cutting and piecing 4 patches and hour glass blocks and HSTs.

But, I persisted....remember....use that fabric up.

And...I got this.

If the pic looks weird...I'll confess....once I got it hung, I realized I had hung it sideways. No way was I taking it down and rehanging. haha  So, the pic just got turned. That's why you see the hangers on the left and the floor on the right. hahahahahaha

top.jpg.7805b471bf131d34a6c505742622b9a9.jpg

I don't believe I looked at the size of this before I started. haha  It is monster, king size HUGE...100" x 104". I hope it fits on my frame.

Once I got the inside piece fused down, I went ahead and quilted just that middle white part. I wanted to get those pieces sewn down so they stayed down. The middle part will be extra fluffy once I quilt the whole thing.

1377104426_Qdmiddle.jpg.e4dfed8364a7378cac6ac31fc03a8199.jpg

Once I got blocks put together, and pieces fused on, I stitched a few large stitches over every fused piece. I have trouble with my fusibles...they tend to come up and I sometimes lose pieces. As you can see, some of these are already coming loose. As I quilt it, it won't be a problem to pull out the thread that is holding the piece down as I get to it to quilt it. I knew wrestling this monster top would cause some of them to come loose.

1.jpg.2e296a0c633643f6bbf8c0c9e46078fd.jpg

I didn't have bias tape, so i just sewed some green fabric into 'vines'. works for me. I love those little birds.

2.jpg.c49b1fc42958567e1c2af9d5f53c08e5.jpg

This quilt used a LOT of smaller fabric pieces. But it sure was tiring making all those blocks.

4.jpg.8126b8ae6b3560fa5a195f6312e549a5.jpg

5.jpg.287039c4a9e84b4153b12bd7dd21d5e1.jpg

I plan on keeping this one for me. I will quilt it once I get Brenda's #5 off my frame.

I don't even have a king size bed...only queen. haha   it hangs way over the sides.

Embroidery projects I am working on

Well, my embroidery machine made some old man strange noises and died a sudden death.

Hopefully, it will come back from the shop soon. I miss her.

In the meantime, so as not to go into withdrawal, I dug out the backup embroidery machine.

Trouble is, it only can make 4" or 5" blocks.

Oh well, at least it's something.

so,...

I made more monkeys. I started these a few years ago....when the good machine was once again in the shop. haha

Now i have 17 of 20 finished.  The other 3 might get done before the machine comes back.

1.jpg.f36250f703ae1d43351318a962acada9.jpg

The green and blue fabric blocks are something I had left over from another abandoned project, so I decided to use them up.

4.jpg.dc6322d6a8059dcdfa6910cb61dd6280.jpg

And, I opened an email from Sweet Pea and they had crazy quilt designs on sale. You know how I love crazy quilt designs.

So, I am making some 5" blocks....and using up some purple fabric and thread. When the other machine comes back, I will make some 10" blocks to go with these. There will be many more 5" blocks. There are only 12 designs, so there will be duplicates. So far, I have 7 finished.

1.jpg.a7be956120d43cddd7f764dcb3b0561a.jpg

I also succumbed to George Sicliano's ads on Facebook for his Designing Logs.

These are 5" and 5 x 10"

I am using up some black and white scraps for these....with a bit of red.

It will be a long term project....in between other things.

One 5" block had 45 pieces...haha

Has anyone tried his designs? They are paper pieced.

4.jpg.4cd00f5d8feb3c5aaf9b163ded5ab1d9.jpg

So, that is what I've been up to these days.

Oh, and working on quilting Brenda's quilt #5....that is slow going. I have to talk to myself and make myself quilt. haha

The embroidery machine has a stronger pull.

Kimberbell Halloween quilt top

This is just the top....not quilted yet. I got most of it finished a couple years ago, then let it sit.

I finally put my big girl panties on and got the border on it and finished up a couple things and now it is ready for quilting.

top.thumb.jpg.9dc5f34a5df5edb392bddda3fd0d8145.jpg

That Broomhilda's Bakery sign is not attached. they put a button on it. If I quilt this, I will probably just quilt it down.

1.jpg.56d843ebd9967a0cc80ed69fb1b6fe05.jpg

There are all kinds of blocks. I used the Kimberbell fabrics called for.

2.jpg.bdd07e8498b34a67ed966f3b86d6219b.jpg

Today's menu hangs from a button.  The eyeballs in the 'glass' jar are behind vinyl. The spider on the pie is 3D

3.jpg.41e86c3e76cca1bfc0a9154462d042ce.jpg

Several things are in vinyl jars. I think that spider is supposed to hang from a web...oops, forgot that.

4.jpg.be97428d9bc8b9905ff96e74f9b06810.jpg

The flower is 3D along with the top of the shoe.

5.jpg.54aa74fc4b5d190879f7fc755daabdd2.jpg

This was just too much fun to do.

6.jpg.fb9df770c73d478d5d4f5634045a8c58.jpg

This shoe has glitter. The Bone Appetit sign is only pinned on.

7.jpg.4a23157e820eecfcbefb0dbccd2f9137.jpg

Love that cupcake. haha

8.jpg.07cc704739d8f0e4800c759b5ceef37b.jpg

Broom is 3D

9.jpg.da125a82f8700e3f9ceccb07d3c33130.jpg

This was a lot of fun. I am not really a Halloween person, but couldn't resist this one.

If anyone would like to purchase it, give me a holler. Maybe you know a Halloween lover.
