UFO #5 on the list...Churn Dash...done piecing

Finally....another UFO finished. well, pieced....not yet quilted. but i call that finished.

This was started in the madness of Vicki Welsh's HSTeria sew along back last spring. i pieced 3 tops for that madness. this was #4....i got several blocks done and got tired of it. i started piecing on June 19, 2014, re-started piecing on October 17, 2014, and finished piecing on December 10, 2014. you can see i procrastinated quite a bit since October. and, actually i quit before i did all the blocks i had planned. it was going to be a couple rows larger but i figured at 70" square i had enough of it.

So, it is now a top and going to live in the to-be-quilted cabinet. when will it be quilted? who knows.

i have to quilt faster......80-something tops still to quilt. and already 4 UFOs finished and added to the cabinet. not sure this is going to work out right. haha

Sweet Dreams

I did not have sweet dreams with this quilt.  i started....and ripped it out....3 times before it worked for me. for some reason, Glide and Bottom Line threads would not work. Glide and So Fine didn't want to work.  finally changed to a different spool of Glide and used the So Fine and we were good.  sheesh!

Then....thread breakage several times. i am so not used to this nonsense. but it is done ..... and done is good.

I got a bit of squishing of the fabric with the quilting of the baptist fans. i'm thinking because the background fabric of pale yellow was an inferior product...and the embroidery drew it up a bit also.

It is all girly. i was thinking as i was quilting it....gee, if you made another one and used pale blue thread on light green fabric....it could be for a boy. then i slapped myself around some and said...are you crazy!!!   it took almost 2 years to finish this little thing.  so, i'm over that.

These are pretty cool...but intense. haha   i am thinking i will definitely need sashing between the blocks or your mind might explode.

Isn't it wonderful what you can find in fabrics these days?    knives ....taxis... .mustaches ....amazing.  gotta love those designers.

Victorian Houses

I love Victorian houses...wish i had one. so, when i found these blocks in the Aunt Sophie inheritance stash, i knew i had to do something with them.

They were pieced on December 30, 2012...and have been waiting till today to be quilted.

There were 2 different sizes of blocks so i had to get creative to fit them all together. EQ is my friend.

Just added log cabin blocks and tree blocks in the size that matched the small houses and wiggled them all around till they all fit.

Don't know why i didn't take a pic of the tree block. i think i just wanted to be done. when i started to quilt it this morning...it didn't have the pink border so i added that before quilting. it looked naked without a border.

The back is something wild that was in the stash. trying for a no fabric buying zone here. shoot....come to think of it...this might have come from Aunt Sophie also. haha

So, that is one more out of the to-be-quilted cabinet. tomorrow is class day but perhaps Tuesday i can get another little something quilted up.

If you like specifics, it is 53x65"...i used pale pink Glide thread for the top and aqua So Fine for the bobbin.

And it was quilted using Suzanne's meandering magic in feathers.

Tell it to the Stars top is finished

This is the result of the year long mystery quilt with Judy Laquidara at www.patchworktimes.com
It was a fun quilt and i like it...but i had issues along the way. that pieced border gave me fits. and i have some wavy borders. i can quilt that out. haha

Note to self....don't use striped fabric for background

Note to self....don't use striped fabric for blocks

Note to self...don't use striped fabric in borders unless you are prepared to turn them in the proper directions.

Note to self...summary...don't use striped fabrics except for binding. haha

I don't care how careful i cut....how careful i sew....little tiny pieces are the death of me. pieced borders with lots of tiny pieces are not fun.

I don't know when it will get quilted....it's going to live in the to-be-quilted cabinet. it might come up some time in 2015.

Today i told myself i would not do the mystery for 2015. well, perhaps i'll just take a peek at it. or, maybe just print out the clues and see where it goes.

Sigh!!!

Nickel and Dime

This whole quilt was finished....start to finish....in the last 2 weeks.  i need a huge celebration. that hasn't been accomplished in a long, long, loooong time. haha

It is called Nickel and Dime and my quilt teacher showed it to our class 2 weeks ago.

I had a couple of batik bunches. i think Quilt in a Day had them on sale some time back for 40% off.  i don't even like batiks that much....but they were on SALE!. hahaha  pitiful, i know.  but now, most of them have been used up.

It's a simple, fun little project. those little 4 patches in the middle should fray after washing and drying. i might have to help them along a bit.

This is the wild back. I used a gold Glide for the top and a gold So Fine for the bottom. some CC in the middle blocks and some feathery things around the block.

It is couch size. the best thing is that it is NOT a UFO nor is it residing in the to-be-quilted cabinet. i am proud of myself for that.

Color Love Progress

I've been piecing the little blocks for the Color Love quilt in the evenings. now i have all the 4" blocks finished. and the 4x6", too.  now working on the 6" and the 6x8".

Here is where i am so far.

Today i fused some fabrics and cut out flower and leaf and stem pieces for the 4 applique rectangles around the center star. hope to get those fused down tonight.

It is slowly coming along. i told myself i would not let this become 1 more UFO.....so i am keeping after it.

I like it because there are lots of colors and you don't have to make dozens of each block.

Another winner.
