Brown selvage blocks

The box for the brown selvages was so stuffed.....i could not get anything else in there. so, it was time to use some of them up. i spent the last few days making 10" blocks. i made 56 of them. how can it look like i did not even make a dent in that box? i just don't understand it.

There are 4 different designs in the middles....from the Cabin Cats line of fabrics. there are black birds...

There are crocks...

There are hat boxes...

And, there are kittens in a basket...too cute.

They are 10" finished and i have figued out how i want to set them....just need to get them pieced together...maybe throw a brown border on there...and quilt it up. hopefully, soon. i am leaving them on the shelf so i see them and get inspired to finish them. hahahahaha

And since all these 56 blocks didn't even use an appreciable amount of brown selvages.....i am now piecing a brown and pink selvage quilt.

And...while i was piecing these...i thought of yet another design idea. so, i have pulled more selvage pieces and more blocks for the middles and cut out the base fabrics. will start those soon, too.

I love selvages.

The green selvage box is getting really full, too. that will have to be the next color used. i swear they reproduce in the night. i better get on that...i'll talk to you...

Cabin Cats #6.....Boxed Squares

Another Cabin Cats top is pieced...#6. this pattern is called Boxed Squares and you can find the instructions on www.maryquilts.com    she has lots of easy patterns.

This turned out to be 64 x 76 inches. it is a bit dark and could have used more contrast....but i worked with what i had.

The pattern was quick and easy and went together in no time. I like the stripe for the final border. puts the whole thing in a log cabin....where cabin cats should be.

I pieced a binding with scraps from all the fabrics just to use more of it up. i swear these bolts of fabric will never end. although i have less than a yard of 4 of the fabrics....i still have 2 fabrics wrapped on bolts. there will probably be 3 more quilts made from these fabrics. who knew you could get so many.

But it is fun trying to come up with different patterns to use it all up. let's see what i figure out next.

Maybe you have some bolts of fabric of your own.....see how many quilts you can get out of them. it might surprise you.

Bali Pops Jelly Roll quilted

Remember last friday i showed you the Bali Pops top that i pieced in a few hours with 2 jelly rolls. well, yesterday i decided to quilt it. that didn't take too long, either. i used a pattern from my friends at Quiltazoid and it turned out just lovely.

Here's a closer shot

The backing was a 2 yard piece of batik backing that i bought at a show somewhere...probably 3 or 4 years ago. i finally decided to quit saving it and use it.

And a closer shot of the back.

This morning i quilted up 2 kid size quilts with tractors on them. i loaded 2 on one backing and batting and did them both at once. they were the same kind and same size so that went quickly.  2 more on the 'to have binding' pile.

And i got all the blocks put together for the wedding quilt that is due next month. good thing i hung it on the wall to take a final look at it before adding borders...yep, 1 block was turned the wrong way...so had to take it out and turn it. a pain to do but better to find it now than when quilting.

Am still playing with the Cabin Cats fabrics. here is a sneak peek at #3.

Yep,,,,it's gonna be a log cabin quilt. with the pictures in the middle i don't really want to turn the blocks to create some fabulous design with the light and dark sides so i guess it will just be a 'plain' setting. but, that's ok, too. they can't all be fabulous, right?

Right now i am going to cheat and do Cabin Cats #4 (on the longarm) before finishing up #3. it's calling to me and i can't resist.

Hubby is off today doing a good deed for a friend and then will feed hisself before coming home this evening....so i have the whole day to myself and don't have to worry about what time i leave the studio or any food preparation....yippee!!.......i'm off to play.

Cabin Cats #2 Take 5 top finished

I am on a roll....the Take 5 Cabin Cats top is pieced. another quickie. I sorta, kinda planned the placement of the Take 5 block piecing.

I just HAD TO put those scenes together in the middle

and the blue blocks in the corners.

then i put the large blocks around the edges and the rest just wherever. of course, it is set 4x5 blocks so there isn't a true 'center' but it works ok. got a 2" striped border in there and then the cute last 6" border. i haven't used that last border fabric yet but it works well as a border. and the borders turn out so much better if i measure before attaching...LOL

I think i will do some log cabin blocks....what better for Cabin Cats...right?.....and use those blocks in that final border for the center of the log cabins.

This one turned out 62 x 75" and used 6.25 yards for the top and binding. i have several more designs rattling around up there in the old noggin and can hardly wait to start then. but i MUST work on the quilt on the frame. i finally figured out what to do next last night and better go do it before i forget it.

On another note....i crocheted about 4 shirts onto the rug last night and now the first finger on my left hand is killing me and swollen....so i need to rest that for a couple days before moving on. but the rug is about 12 inches now and coming along nicely.

Back to work...see ya later.

8 bolts of Cabin Cats fabrics

OK...here's what i think. i got these 8 partial bolts of fabric at my friends sale....they are called Cabin Cats. they all go together so i figure i should make something cute with it. each bolt has at least 4 yards on it....some of them more.

So my brain came up with an idea. i am going to see how many quilts i can make with only these 8 bolts of fabric. use them all up. no other fabric allowed....just these 8. each quilt wouldn't have to use EACH of these fabrics....but i couldn't add any other different fabrics. just a little contest with myself. (yeah, i know....i'm a strange person....can't help it). LOL

So, in doing the Bali Pops top the other day that went so quickly i figured that would be my first top for these. i cut out 40  2.5 inch strips last night before i left the studio and took them to the house. this morning i put them together and got this for the middle.

Now i'm gonna go cut some borders for it and finish it off. i think the next top might be a Take 5...that is quick and easy. that seems to be my operating motto lately...quick and easy.

How many tops do you think i can make? they will be in the at least 80 x 90 inch range. perhaps larger.
Do you have a pattern i should use that is quick and easy?
How long do you think this will take me?
Say...there might be a contest in all this somewhere.....whatca think?

Give me your thoughts....you can skip the 'crazy' thought....i already know that one.
