Christmas Buttons

Here is today's quilt.  it took longer than i wanted it to.  i went home for lunch and hubby decided it was time to plow up the garden. my job is to walk behind the plow and throw out the rocks. i only found a couple rocks....but found 20 more sweet potatoes and 1 red potato. i knew i probably missed a few of them. so that took 2 hours of my day.

But i still got this done.  Machine embroidery and buttons added later.

Pieced January 29, 2013

Quilted November 7, 2014

Cream border and marroon blocks are flannel

All embroidery got SID and 3 echoes. SID around the blocks.

Glide lime green on top

Dark forest green in So Fine in bobbin

Snowballs for sale

I think they could have designed the snowflake a little better

Red blocks got a Quiltazoid design. i had to work at that....been too long since i have played with it...had to get out the directions.

After i had loaded the quilt.....did the SID around the blocks....and sewed the edges down...THEN...i noticed the top, bottom and right side had 3 borders and the left side had only 2 borders. WTH??  i have no idea what happened there. i had no more fabric to add a border, so, after quilting,  i cut off one border on the right side so the sides would match. good enough. hahaha

Back is a flannel, too

No quilting shows...but here's a closer pic.

OK, now that you are used to seeing a quilt (or two) every day.....i have to disappoint you tomorrow. there is an auction in town and we are going. so, just rest up tomorrow....or quilt one of your tops. i'll try to get back in the swing of things on Sunday.

Birds in the Field

More Aunt Sophie blocks....this time hand embroidered birds. there was an odd amount of blocks so i had to get out EQ to figure out a setting.

It is 48" square. there is a flowery/feathery thing quilted in the border.

I just did SID around all the pieces...and around the birds. and an echo around the birds, too.

Cream thread top and bottom. Both Bottom Line....which i figured out later is why it was so hard to see the thread. usually i use Glide for the top and it has a sheen. picked up the wrong cone of thread.

Too bad it doesn't have the name of the birds on the blocks.

I threw some feathers in the plain triangular blocks.

The backing is another Aunt Sophie piece of fabric. i suspect this might have been a sheet in its former life.

Can now count one more done and out of the cabinet.  we are moving right along with the mission.

Quilt Sayings

This little quilt top had its turn today. it is 38 x 50".

These little quilt sayings blocks came in my Aunt Sophie inheritance.

The top was pieced July 13, 2012

And quilted November 6, 2104

Just a quick meander....back is a pale blue.

Top thread was a pale pink Glide......bobbin thread was a cream Bottom line.    it went pretty fast....maybe an hour....start to finish.

I like the quick ones.....another top finished.

Variegated thread

My new best friend, Riley, sent me some spools of variegated thread that she no longer wanted.

How cool is that ....a friend to send you thread. such happy, pretty colors.

Good thing i have dozens of tops to quilt or i would have to be piecing a lot more.

Which color to start with....the oranges are so petty.....put the purples are calling me.  i better go check the quilt tops and see which i can use first.

Thank you, Riley....you're the best.

Lauren Burch's Wild Horses panel

I had forgotten i had this one. and it wasn't pieced that long ago....on January 17, 2013.  quilted on November 5, 2014.

Quilting doesn't show much. i used a panto on this one...Plush by Lorien Quilting.

Glide light olive thread on the top; dark green Bottom Line in the bobbin

It is 42 x 58"    i think this is my last Lauren Burch fabric

And a wild back for this one.

I don't have much of this left either...just a few small pieces.

But, it's another one out of the quilting cabinet. i think that might be #7 since i started this quilting marathon. only 80-something to go. hahahahaaha

ABCs on felted wool

I do a lot of alphabet quilts. there are so many machine embroidery designs that i like and i can't resist them.

This one was pieced December 16, 2012 and quilted on November 5, 2014...almost 2 years in the waiting.

I threw in some number blocks also so i could get an even number of rows.

I love these designs....they are digitized really well.

And sewing them on the felted wool was a dream...not a problem at all.

I love all the bright colors and the cute animals.

Well, maybe a vulture isn't 'cute'....

Quilting was done in orange thread in the square in a square design...quick and easy.

Peach Glide thread on the top and Bottom Line orange in the bobbin.  love that striped binding...matches the sashings.

I think some child will love it.

Fabric Zentangle

Zentangles are just one more hobby that i like.  but this time the fabric did all the work.

I pieced it on February 2, 2011....and it finally got quilted November 4, 2014.  a long time in the to-be-quilted cabinet.

Black Glide thread on top and black Bottom Line in the bobbin.

Quilting is all but impossible to see...i more or less followed the design of the fabric pieces.

Went around everything with a thin black trim.

Random lines in the border

The heart is my favorite part.

Here is the back....quilting can be seen easier.

It was a quickie quilt job so i didn't fuss with it too much.

It was fun

Nice to have another one done.

I drew the design out on a large piece of paper and then cut out the sections.

Then sewed all the parts down and sewed a thin black trim around them.

It was simpler and easier in my head than in reality.....but the final result is cool.
