Disappearing 16 patch

You don't often think of a 16 patch. usually it's a 4 patch....or a 9 patch.  well, a 16 patch is just a 9 patch on steroids.  just a bit chubbier.

Make a 16 patch....any size blocks.....any colors....then cut it diagonally twice...then put the opposite pieces together into a square.  set them on point with some sashings....or not....and this is what you get. i cut hundreds of 5" blocks....about 750 of them....LOL. what was i thinking?  cut up a lot of scrap pieces. this is about queen size.  i have enough blocks to make another one.....some day.

It's a great scrap buster. i just used everything i had in the scrap boxes.

2 1/2" sashings ....black cornerstones with tiny white dots.

How do you like that ugly border? hahahahahaha  it was a piece that i acquired in the last truckload of fabric that i bought. it looks like a crazy quilt and i figured with all the colors in the top already....it was just right for the border. it could have used a couple more inches....but that is all i had. so, it is what it is.

This counted for 8 1/2 yards used. i want to make another one with smaller blocks....perhaps 2 1/2".   and you could do it in a 2 color quilt, too. think red and white.....blue and white.....whatever.

Off it goes into the marinating cabinet to await it's turn for quilting....someday. i actually pulled something out of the cabinet today and have it on the longarm. i was looking for something to take to the Duck to put on a table and found my feed sack rooster. got the outside done today....hopefully finish the middle tomorrow.

My friend, Brenda, brought me I Spy squares today with fabulous things in there that i didn't have. so i had to add a few things to the alphabet squares that i had made already. B got bananas, burger, basket, bow, bone and button. and to S i added scissors and soap.  it's nice to have a friend that does I Spy blocks....she's a good source of novelty fabrics. thanks again, Brenda.

And, thank you to St. Anthony...i found my C block this morning that i had misplaced.

I swear....the mind is going.
