More Duck adventures

The weekend at the Duck was fun. I spent 3 days adding more barn wood to my dining room walls.

On Friday i started with this... wall on the left almost to the ceiling .... gotta climb the ladder for these. and the wall on the right is rising nicely.

By the end of the day Friday....i have this. that doesn't look like much....but it is 1 row (2 boards) on the left side. and 3 rows on the right side.  remember this is ladder work. and those suckers are heavy. i am also drilling holes so the screws go in easier. it makes it quicker to get the board placed and the first screw in while holding it in place....with an elbow, or whatever body part is available.

By end of day Saturday....i was across the top of the doorway and going down the other side.

Here is the other side. notice i had to go around another electric plug. i actually got that one in there with only 2 cuts. amazing. since the first one i did took about 42 cuts. hahahahaha  got a lot accomplished saturday....worked a full day. sweat a LOT and drank gallons of tea and water.

On Sunday i finished the bottom part of the wall from yesterday. i started about 5:30 in the morning and was finished by 8:30.  although the space was smaller...it is actually harder to do....because i was adding boards underneath the one before and not on top of. it is harder to hold up there. it involved a milk crate and standing on one leg. ....  don't ask!

I did go and get different screws. i was using Phillips heads and switched to the star heads. i didn't have to drill pilot holes and they went in much easier. my new favorite screws.

So, let's recap....in 3 days work .... with no injuries ( a milesone in itself)....i have the left side wall from the doorway up to the ceiling corner. the right side wall is up to the ceiling....

The right side wall is above the doorway....

And down the other side to the electric plug. i will need one corner piece under the plug to complete that row. the next time i go down i will probably continue this side on up to the ceiling. then that wall will be completely finished and only 2 1/2 more walls to go. the good thing is (I think) all the other walls have windows and a large doorway....so i will be using shorter boards.

And i have decided...rather than regular trim for baseboards and top, i am going to use barn wood for trim. and around that doorway, too. this project is really coming along and i am liking it a lot.

It was not without its headaches. i had a lot of calculating to do in the beginning and re-cutting. but i think i have my mojo going now and have figured it all out. after carting those boards around for 3 days my shoulders hurt. did i mention they are heavy?

In between all the installation of boards, i had to sand about 10 more boards when i ran out. and the next time i go down there....i will have to sand a bunch of boards before i can start working. i have to dig through the piles and pair up 2 boards that are the same width for a run across the wall. clean up at the end of the day is a mess from the sander and the saw. and you'll notice there is furniture here and there....covered in sawdust. hahahaha

Along with the barn wood project, i trimmed trees along the back fence line. they were out of control once again. i'm surprised my lawn guy hasn't called to complain. won't he be surprised when he cuts next time to see that i've spruced it all up for him.

Now to rest my bones so i can go back in a few weeks to do it all over again. this room is going to be finished this year.....that's the plan.  i'm thinking already of the next project....the pantry off the kitchen. it's tiny.....shouldn't take long....right?   yea, right....hahahahaha

Yes she is amazing, she is doing a fine job. But there was never a doubt about it. Great job honey, the pictures look better here than when you were showing them to me on the camera view finder.
