Critters Alphabet ... first quilt of 2018!

This is my UFO challenge quilt for January. Judy Laquidara pulled #10 for the month and this was the 10th top in the to-be-quilted cabinet. It was only pieced a few weeks ago, so it hardly got time to marinade.

It is a pattern by Critter Pattern Works. They had the animals in the border, but I like them in the blocks better. Their's was basically orange and black.

It is fusible applique. I quilted on the edge of each letter and animal and put some swirls in the larger open spaces. went around each block .... across each row.

I had gotten a pile of graphic FQs a while back and used them for the letters. A combination of blacks and whites for the blocks and animals.

It is 50x58"

the X is Xereus....an African ground squirrel. maybe that is its Latin name??

Backing is an alphabet fabric from the stash. used this for the binding, too.

Top thread was Glide Chocolate; bobbin was Highlights Peacock.

I am still working on the #10 piecing UFO.....a flannel top....maybe done in a few days.

And working on the #10 embroidery project....a southwestern design....it might take all month. haha

Now I have to quilt one for my sister.

That quilt is really cute, love the idea of the repeated use of the alphabet
