Hummingbirds in Baskets

This has been a long time in the making. I started it sometime early in 2014...then it sat for months....i picked it back up in December 2014 and finally finished piecing it in January, 2015. Back in the cabinet it went....until now.

I really wish I could finish something from beginning to end...without letting it set for years in between. by the time i drag it out to quit it, i usually don't even care for it anymore. This is 48x68".  My notes say I paper pieced the top part of the basket, with the bird and handles.

The bottom of the baskets are selvages...naturally.

I did SID around the basket handle, going in to go around the bird as I got to it. and put some feathers in the black spaces in between the baskets as I traveled across the row.

Coming back the other way, I put some lines across in the basket...and put the feathers in the black spaces between.

The back was something I found in the stash. A cotton, but not a quilting fabric...but it worked ok.

The border I just quilted some flowers and feathers...making it up as I went along. The binding is a tan piece of binding that was in the binding pieces basket.

Top thread was a bright yellow Glide; bobbin was So Fine light brown.

Glad to have this out of the cabinet. It will probably be a vet donation.
